April Showers

Good morning!  It's time for a new challenge from the ladies at Ruby's Rainbow; for this fortnight Manuela has chosen our challenge and it is...Paper Piecing!  Fun challenge for sure!

I've used a cute and spring-y image and a fun mix of papers for my paper piecing and die cuts.  The image is colored with pencils and her rain coat and boots are paper pieced; I've embellished with ribbon, Bella Baubles, and die cut clouds.  I love the patterned papers...they are so bright and cheery!

Image: Stamp Fairy Patsy 4
Ink: Printer, SU! Black Marker, Black Gel Pen
Paper: G.P. 110 CS, PTI Berry Sorbet CS, Echo Park, Bella Blvd., and PTI Patterned Papers

Sketch Saturday #395

Good morning sketch fans!  We have a new sketch for you, along with a new sponsor...Bunny Zoe's Crafts.  Here's the sketch:

I really love this one, even though I made some modifications.  I had to turn it into a square because of the image size, then I didn't have room for the banners on the bottom.  Ugh!  Hopefully you can still see the "bones" of the sketch!

We are in the midst of a cold snap here, so I went with a fun, winter image from The Cat's Pajamas.  I've colored the ewe with pencils and paper pieced her scarf and pockets.  The papers have been in my stash a long time and I like that the burgundy paper has a nice "knit" like texture to it.  I've embellished with snowflakes accented with Swarovski flatback crystals.

Here's a close-up of the snowflakes and paper piecing detail:

Image/Sentiment: The Cat's Pajamas
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Signo Black Gel Pen
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select, Fine Linen, and Scarlet Jewel, Fancy Pants Designs Patterned Paper

Ruby's Rainbow: Get Well

Good morning!  We have a new challenge for you from the ladies at Ruby's Rainbow; Silvi has chosen our challenge which is "Get Well".  Sounds good...it's always wise to keep this type of card in your stash!

I've combined some cheery patterned paper with a Doodle Pantry image, which I have paper pieced and added a touch of glitter.  I've embellished simply with ribbon and a button.

Image/Sentiment: Doodle Pantry "Soup and Tissue" Digital Image
Ink: Printer, SU! Black Marker
Paper: G.P. 110, PTI Harvest Gold and Hawaiian Shores, Echo Park
Embellies: Art Glitter in "Polar Bear", PTI Harvest Gold Stitched Ribbon, PTI Hawaiian Shores Button/DMC Floss

Hogs and Kisses!

Good morning!  We have a fun new sketch for you at From the Heart Stamps, along with a new "twist" to "spotlight or 3D parts of the image".  Here's the sketch:

I went with the "twist" only this week.  I had already printed Pumpkin PigWit twice, with the intent of paper piecing, and wanted to use the fall image since I will soon be moving on to Christmas images.  The image is colored with pencils and Pigwit's eyes are dotted with a gel pen.  I've cut out (and popped up) his "hat", snout, the center portions of the pumpkins, and some of the leaves.  I pulled some fall patterned paper from my stash and decided to pick up the blue dot in the background...even though I have colored nothing in the image blue...theory being that blue and orange are complementary colors.  I wasn't sure how it would look, but I like it!  I've added a bit of ribbon and a diecut heart with an extra sentiment.  This is a really fun technique to do and it does add a lot of interest to the image...give it a try!

Here's a close-up of the 3D detail:

From the Heart Stamps November Blog Hop: CAS and Over the Top

Good morning!  It's time for From the Heart Stamps November Blog Hop; our theme this month is "CAS and Over the Top"...hop along for some fabulous inspiration from the DT!

As you hop along, please leave a comment on each entry.  One random commentor will be selected on each blog to win an image of choice from Faith's store.

If you have arrived from the From the Heart Stamps blog you are in the right place, if not why don't you start at the From the Heart Stamps blog so that you don't miss anything.  We were challenged to make 2 cards this month...one "clean and simple" and the other "over the top".  Here's my CAS card:

I choose one of Faith's adorable snowmen, Blowing Kisses, and used the sketch from the Cheerful Sketches Challenge Blog. For my CAS version, I kept it really simple with clean lines, minimal layering, a touch of glitter on the red heart, and just a single snowflake for embellishing.  Next up is my Over the Top card:

Here are the changes I have made for my Over the Top version:

1. Downsized the image and added a sentiment.
2. Printed an extra image so I could pop up the hat, gloves, nose and foot for added dimension.
3. Colored the hat and gloves a bit darker than the CAS version, to help balance the addition of the red.
3. In addition to glitter on the heart, I have added glitter to the hat and gloves.  (I've used 3 kinds of glitter!)
4. I've added red to the aqua/white color scheme.
5. I've added another background layer, and matted all layers for definition.
6. I've added 2 extra snowflakes.

Here is a detail shot of the image panel:

Image: FTHS "Blowing Kisses" Digital Image
Ink: Printer
Paper: G.P. 110, Gina K. Designs Pure Luxury. PTI Pure Poppy, Lawn Fawn Patterned Paper
Embellies: Martha Stewart Glitters-Crystal Fine, "Sugar Cube", and "Candy Apple"
Extras: Prismas/Goo Gone, Spellbinder's Snowflake Dies, Foam Tape

Now head on over to Brenda's blog to check out her fabulous creation!

Thanks for hopping along with us today; the hop will end on Monday, November 9th at 6:00 a.m.  Winners will be posted on the From the Heart Stamps blog on Wednesday, November 11th.

Sketch Saturday

Good morning sketch fans!  It's Saturday so that means we have a great new sketch for you at Sketch Saturday...check it out:

I was a little bit stumped with the top panel, but then I thought of clouds!  I got out a Cat's Pajamas stamp set and some dies.  I had fun with this one; there's no coloring so it was a change of pace...a bit of paper piecing and die cutting.  I've embellished with Swarovski flatback crystals, buttons, and twine.  I love all the sparkle and texture!

Good morning!  It's time for a new sketch challenge from the Saturday Girls; since it's the 5th Saturday of the month, that means you get to pick your sketch!  We also have a great sponsor this week...Drawn with Character...the images are adorable!  I think I will be doing a bit of shopping....

I used "Coffee and Doughnuts" (thank you to Drawn with Character) and Sketch #225.  Here's the sketch:

I thought this layout would suit the image perfectly and I did minimal layering to keep the focus on the image.  I've done a bit of coloring with pencils and paper pieced the cup.  For embellishing, I've added some glitter to the doughnut and sparkly Bella Dots.

Flappy Birthday!

Good morning!  Welcome to our From the Heart Stamps September Blog Hop; our theme this month is "For the Bird{brains}"...hop along for some fabulous inspiration from the DT!

As you hop along, please leave a comment on each entry.  One random commentor will be selected on each blog to win an image of choice from the store.  Some DT members will be giving away the actual project created for the hop (Yes, I am!) so you may win an image and a card or project from some of the blogs.  In addition, one commentor on the From the Heart Stamps blog will win a $15 gift voucher to the store!

We are offering a really cool prize on the FTHS blog!  Have you ever had a great idea for a Birdbrain image?  Well, this is your chance!  One lucky winner will be selected randomly, from all the comments, to work with Faith to design a Birdbrain image!  How cool is that?!

We would also like to invite all of you to be a part of our hop this month.  There is an inlinkz on the bottom of the FTHS blog and on each individual blog.  Use one of the designer's tutorials and a Birdbrain image to play along.  We can't wait to see what you create!  If you are interested in guest designing for FTHS for the next few months, simply add GDT to your entry.  We are looking for 6 people to guest design for 2 month rotations over the next 6 months.  Hope you will play along!

If you have arrived from our Guest Designer Ruth's blog, you are in the right place.  If not, you may want to start at the From the Heart Stamps blog so that you don't miss anything.

Here is my card; followed by a short tutorial on how to make the gift box shown at the top of this post.  The box is great for a bulky card or just to elevate presentation.

My card is 5 1/2" square, so I have started with 2 pieces of CS cut at 6 5/8".

Score the first piece of CS 1/2" from the edge, on all four sides.

Score the second piece of CS, on all 4 sides.  Note in the second picture that the edge of the CS doesn't go quite to the 1/2" line.  This piece will used for the lid and will be just a tiny bit bigger; I like it to fit nice and snug.

Fold and crease the scored lines with a bone folder.  Next cut to the scored line on each of the corners; it will look like this:

Apply a small amount of glue to the outside of the tab; you will then tuck the tab to the inside.

Here is the completed box...top and bottom.  You are now ready to embellish your box; you can go all out or just keep it simple like I did today.  I wanted to card and box to be cohesive.

I have added a piece of white felt to the bottom of the box, along with a belly band using coordinating patterned papers.  Again, here is a picture of the card in the box:

Image: FTHS "Flappy Birthday Birdbrain" Digital Image
Ink: Printer
Paper: G.P. 110, PTI Stamper's Select, SU! Real Red, American Crafts Patterned Paper
Embellies: Martha Stewart "Candy Apple" Glitter, Spare Parts Brads, PTI Pure Poppy Twill
Extras: Prismas/Goo Gone, Spellbinders Nestabilities, Scor-Pal, White Felt, Foam Tape

Now head on over to Calypso's blog to see her fabulous creation!

Thanks for hopping with us today; the hop will end on Sunday, September 14th at 6:00 a.m. EST.  Winners will be posted, on the From the Heart Stamps blog, on Wednesday, September 17th.

Anyone for Ice Cream?

Good morning...it's Tuesday so that means we have a new sketch for you at Tuesday Morning Sketches!  It's a fun one...check it out:

I used a new set, from The Cat's Pajamas, that had just been delivered.  I thought it would be really fun to paper piece the ice cream and the bowl...until I was into the project....  LOL  There are actually 10 pieced adhered to the original stamped image.  The bowl is pieced with vellum, which worked perfectly.  I dotted the bunny's eyes with a black gel pen and added glitter to the umbrella.  I kept the rest of the layout simple, embellishing with Bella Dots and Swarovski Crystals...I did try to use a ribbon, but it just didn't look right, so no ribbon.

Image: The Cat's Pajamas
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Sakura Black Gel Pen
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select, SU! Regal Rose and Chocolate Chip, Simple Stories Patterned Paper

Happy New Baby

Good Morning!  It's Tuesday so that means we have a new sketch for you at Tuesday Morning Sketches...here it is:

There is also a twist this week and that it is: blue, green, and black.  Hmmm, as I looked through my papers I came across these two striped patterns...they were on the flip side of some baby patterns, so I decided to go with a baby theme.  I stamped and fussy cut the onesie before adding a touch of glitter, added some banners, and finished with brads.  I like the clean lines of this one.

It's Coffee O'Clock....

Good morning and happy Monday!  Today is our Anything But a Card challenge at Bugaboo; I've created a simple tag for a gift for a coffee lover.  I've taken a mug, filled it with instant coffee packets, wrapped it, and tied a tag on it...voila'...a quick and easy gift to brighten someone's day!  Here's a close-up of the tag:

The image is colored with pencils, the clock face is paper pieced and accented with a brad, there's a touch of glitter to the heart on the coffee cup, and grosgrain ribbon tops it off.

What's Up?

Good morning!  I have a card to share that I made last week...yes, last week!  How does time get away like that?  Doodle Pantry sponsored last Thursday's Creative Knockouts "Furry Friends" challenge; while my card was posted on the D.P. blog, I hadn't posted here yet.

I used an adorable pre-colored image called Jiggles Giraffe; the set includes outlines, pre-colored images, sentiments, and patterned papers.  I paired the image with some paper from my stash; I wanted to highlight the pretty bow, but wanted a bit of yellow too.  (The third time is a charm...that's how many tries it took to get this right!  LOL  I kept picking out color combos, cutting the papers, and then deciding "No, that's not it!")  I printed an extra bow, cut it out, and popped it up for a little extra "oomph"; I added some mesh and brads for embellishing.

Good morning!  I have a card to share for the Sweet Stampin' challenge; this week the challenge is "Lots of Layers" and the sponsor is Heather Ellis.  I love Heather's images!  I decided on this little cutie from my stash...don't you just love her cute "Peep" sucker?!

The image is colored with pencils, her dress is paper pieced, and the "Peep" is "sugar coated" with glitter.  I've used some fun Doodlebug Easter papers and embellished with some brads and buttons.

Winter Fun

Good morning!  We have a new sketch for you at From the Heart Stamps; along with the sketch is an optional twist...interactive cards.  Here is the sketch we are working with this week:

I searched for different types of interactive cards that would go with the sketch and decided to make a shaker card...I thought some "snow" would be perfect with the image.  I printed and colored my image, die cut it...and then realized that I had not left enough margin for a "frame"!  Ack!  On to plan B...I finished the card, minus the fun shaker effect.  I've done a bit of sponging, paper piercing, and added glitter and a snowflake for embellishing.  (I bet you are wondering why I have a winter card today after posting a couple of springy ones....  It was below zero yesterday and we are supposed to get 1-2 inches of snow tomorrow!  Will spring ever come?)

Tuesday Morning Sketches

Good morning!  We have a new sketch for you to try at Tuesday Morning Sketches; this week Kris chose our sketch to revisit from last year.  For this challenge we also have a twist...lace and pearls.  (Yes, I know...I am twistless....)

The darling bear is colored with pencils, embellished with glitter and he has a paper pieced balloon.  I decided to go a bit untraditional and went with a blue card base...just for fun.  I used my Corner Chomper to add some interest to the layers and embellished with a ribbon.

i {heart} you

Good morning!  It's time for a new challenge from Tuesday Morning Sketches; our sponsor is Patti Rowe, Independent Demonstrator from Close to My Heart and Jessi has chosen her favorite sketch from last year.  Patti let me choose a stamp set and also sent a sample of papers, washi tape, and embellies...thank you, Patti!

I've paper pieced the elements in the sentiment, "Dotted Love", then added glitter to the heart and popped it up.  I love the DP...it's from the Laughing Lora collection...so I wanted to let it shine; I embellished simply with a ribbon tab and metal dot.  This started out to be a Valentine, but because of the colors, I really think it could be used anytime!

Sentiment: Close to My Heart "Dotted Love"
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, SU! Black Marker
Paper: SU! Perfect Plum, Assorted Papers from Close to My Heart
Embellies: Close to My Heart Metal Dot, SU! Black Grosgrain Ribbon, Martha Stewart Crystal Fine Glitter

I {Heart} U

Hello; it's time for the monthly Flat Friends challenge!  For February we would like to see a card with more than one fold...sounds fun, right?!  I went to SCS and looked through all the tutorials before deciding to try the Treat Box Card; it was hard to choose one since there were so many...what a great resource.

With the use of a Scor-Pal, the box was really quite easy to construct.  You could really dress it up, but I kept it simple with just some DP.  I've used one of Emma's darling Valentine images; she is both colored and paper pieced and I've also added a bit of sparkle.  The image panel is simply adhered to the card front.

Paper: PTI Vintage Cream, SU! Strawberry Slush, Pinecone Press DP
Embellies: Art Glitters in"Polar Bear" and "Pink Smoothie"
