Catch the Bug's Christmas in July: Make Us Laugh

Welcome back to Day 5 of Catch the Bug's annual Christmas in July! It's Wednesday,or Humor Me Wednesday as we like to call it at Catch the Bug, so our theme is "Make Us Laugh". Again, our theme is "The Best Christmas Movies Ever", so here are your inspiration movies for today's challenge:

Can anyone guess the movie I used for inspiration? National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation! This movie is a favorite of my family and my inspiration was Aunt Edna's cat! I'm pretty sure her name is Edna...can anyone confirm or deny that? The scene where her cat is in the Christmas tree is a hoot! I also believe there's cat food in her jello...ugh! LOL I've colored this little cutie with pencils and used an old sketch from the archives of Sketch Saturday. I was loving the plaid so much that I didn't want to cover it up, so I used a piece of vellum, adhered with mini brads, for one of the layers. Problem solved...a little extra oomph without covering the plaid. I'm curious, does anyone out there enjoy using brads anymore? I've always liked them. Here's a close-up:

Image: Bugaboo Christmas Cat Digital Image
Sentiment: Pink Cat Studio
Ink: Printer,Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: Neenah CS, PTI Ripe Avocado and Pure Poppy, Simple Stories Patterned Paper, The Paper Studio Vellum

What the Fruit Cake?

Good morning...welcome back to Day 6 of Awkward Holiday Chaos at Catch the Bug! Our theme today is "What the FRUIT CAKE?"...make a project using the color scheme below:

Dottie is printed on Cryogen...I just love the subtle sparkle...and colored to match the fruit cake. (Do we have any fruit cake lovers out there? I have never tried it!) I've added a healthy dose of glitter and went all white with the card; the card base is Cryogen and layers are both textured vellum and Cryogen. The sketch is an oldie from Sketch Saturday #374. Here's what I've created:

Image: Bugaboo "Dottie Christmas Shop" Digital Image
Ink: Printer

Bugaboo Birthday Bash: Color Challenge + Sprinkles

Good morning! It's Day 7 of Bugaboo's Birthday Bash. Not only is it Freebie Friday, we have a Color Challenge for you, plus we would like to see Sprinkles! (Because who doesn't like sprinkles?) Here is the color palette:

I have to say that I love the color palette, but I thought it would be fun to go with an all white card and incorporate the colors into the image only. The adorable chick is colored with pencils and I've added a generous "sprinkling" of glitter to her eyelids, feathers, and balloon. For a bit of texture I've used textured vellum for layering, along with grosgrain ribbon.

Here's a close-up:

Image: Bugaboo Birthday Bird 01 Digital Image

Catch the Bug July Color Challenge

Good morning! We have a Color Challenge for you this Saturday at Catch the Bug...it's bright and summery...love it! Here it is:

Instead of going with patterned paper, I decided to go all white to keep the focus on the image and the colors. I like how it turned out! I've used pencils to color the chick and liberally accented her with glitter. I've matted her with die cuts; the "pinked" edge die cut is textured vellum, like the band. I think the white on white is elegant and a fun change of pace. Card sketch is from Paper Play Sketches. Here's a close-up:

Ink: Printer
Paper: G.P. 110 CS, PTI Stamper's Select CS, PTI Vellum

Bugaboo New Release Tuesday

Good morning...it's New Release day at Bugaboo! Really hoping those April showers will bring May flowers, or in our case May snow! Ugh!

I've colored the image with pencils and paired it with some bright and cheery Doodlebug papers. The paper was too pretty to cover up so I added a piece of vellum for one of the layers on the sketch...I really like that trick...it adds a bit of interest too. I've added a sun and some clouds for embellishing. Here's a close-up:

Image: Bugaboo "Brat Boy Spring Umbrella" Digital Image

Birdbrain Graduate

Good morning!  We have a new sketch to share with you at From the Heart Stamps and it's a great one! Along with the new sketch is the optional twist which is to "Use a Die Cut"; here it is:

Graduation is just a month away, so I thought I should be busy since I have a daughter graduating!  I pulled out some fun school themed papers from my stash and colored the Birdbrain to coordinate.  I've embellished with plenty of die cut stars and some Swarovski flatback crystals.  I also cut out some of the books from the patterned paper...my paper is a holey mess now since the books were scattered all over the 12 x 12 sheet.  My daughter's plan is to major in Microbiology and minor in Spanish, then go to med school with the ultimate goal of practicing Psychiatry, so I picked books that are relevant to her studies.  After I finished I realized the card wasn't too "girly", but the Birdbrain does have glittery "eye shadow" so that does have to count for something!  Haha!  Here's a close-up:

Image: From the Heart Stamps "Birdbrain Graduate" Digital Image
Ink: Printer
Paper: G.P. 110 CS, SU! Summer Sun CS, PTI True Black and Pure Poppy CS, Doodlebug Patterned Paper, The Paper Studio Vellum

Extras: Prismas/Goo Gone, MFT "Stacking Stars" Die-namics, Foam Tape

Please check out the rest of the DT's creations here, along with the challenge details.  We do hope you will give the sketch a try!

Birthday Blog Hop

Good morning!  It's time for From the Heart Stamps December Blog Hop; our theme this month is "Birthdays"...hop along for some fabulous inspiration from the DT!

As you hop along, please leave a comment on each entry.  One random commentor will be selected on each blog to win an image of choice from Faith's store.

If you have arrived from the From the Heart Stamps blog you are in the right place, if not why don't you start at the From the Heart Stamps blog so that you don't miss anything.

We were challenged to create a birthday card related to our birth month...we would like each of you to guess which month that is!  After you've completed the hop, email your answers to Faith for the chance to win a $15 FTHS voucher.  We would also like to challenge you to create a birthday card and link up here for the chance to win a $10 FTHS voucher...you have until January 3, 2016 to enter!

For my card today I have used the adorable  "Five Party Birds". The image is colored with pencils and I've layered the card base with white vellum and a white embossed panel (sheet music for the birds to sing "Happy Birthday"); I've embellished simply with a vellum strip and twill.

Ink: Printer
Paper: Gina K. Designs Pure Luxury CS, PTI Vellum
Embellie: White Twill
Extras: Prismas/Crayolas/Goo Gone, Sizzix "Sheet Music" Embossing Folder, Foam Tape

By looking at my card, can you guess what month I was born in?  I will give you a few hints:

1. I live in Iowa, so by the time my birthday rolls around I am praying for warm weather and the sound of the birds.
2. I have had birthdays where the weather is warm, or birthdays where the ground was covered with snow.
3. My birth month has 5 letters in it.

Now head on over to Brenda's blog to check out her fabulous creation!

Thanks for hopping along with us today; the hop will end on Monday, December 7th at 6:00 a.m.  Winners will be posted on the From the Heart Stamps blog on Wednesday, December 9th.

Birdbrain Balloon

Good morning!  I have a card to share using the newest From the Heart Stamps sketch...#113.  It is a fun sketch for sure, but I had a bit of trouble with the diamond panels...you should see all the "scraps" on my table!  LOL  I think perhaps, somehow, I was making it harder than it should have been....  (I should probably mention that I also spilled the bottle of Goo Gone all over the image as I was coloring it...I had to throw the whole sheet of images away...ugh!)  Here's the sketch:

I choose the adorable "Birdbrain Balloon"...I love coloring the Birdbrains!  (As I was coloring today, I realized I have a "thing" for chicks, chickens, etc.)  Of course I had to add a bit of glittery eye shadow...just because I can't resist!  I wanted the diamond panels to be subtle, so I used vellum and adhered it with mini brads.  I like how this one turned out!

Ink: Printer
Paper: G.P. 110, SU! Melon Mambo, PTI Dark Chocolate, Bella Blvd. Patterned Paper, The Paper Studio Vellum
Embellies: Spare Parts Brads, Martha Stewart "Lemon Drop" Glitter
Extras: Prismas/Crayolas/Goo Gone

Blossoms and Butterflies

Good morning!  We have a new challenge for you at Ruby's Rainbow; for this fortnight, Caz has chosen our challenge and she would like to see "Blossoms and Butterflies"...great choice!

I went clean and simple today to focus on the "blooms and butterflies".  My image is part of a trio called "Spring Baskets" from From the Heart Stamps; I've colored it with pencils and matted it with vellum.  I have also used a strip of vellum, to add texture, between two score lines on the card base; for embellishing I've added a touch of bling.

CAS Bunny Notecard

Good morning!  It's time for a new challenge from the ladies at Ruby's Rainbow; for this fortnight has chosen our challenge and she would like to see "Bunnies" on your creation.  Perfect timing!

I used From the Heart Stamps March SOTM Easter Trio; I printed it 3 times and used the bunny portion only.  The middle image is colored with pencils and I've dotted the eyes with a black gel pen.  It's hard to see, but there is a strip of textured vellum and satin ribbon behind the images.  Clean and simple with just a pop of pink in the image...kind of fun for a change of pace.

Ruby's Rainbow ABC

Good morning!  It's time for a new challenge from the ladies at Ruby's Rainbow; for this fortnight, Valou has chosen our challenge and she would like to see "Anything But a Card".  Sounds like a good challenge!

I made a box to present a custom Baptism card that I made for a friend.  The box is very simple to make with the help of the Scor-Pal; the bottom is lined with white felt and the top is decorated with an embossed panel and a felt rose to coordinate with the card.  For the card, I've used white/cream...embossed CS, textured vellum, die cut onesie with glitter trim, ribbon, a felt flower, pearls and stickpins.  (The recipient loved it!)  Here's a close-up of the card:

Sentiment: Computer Generated (printed in gray)
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select and Vellum
Embellies: Spare Parts Pearls, Maya Road Stickpins, Grosgrain Ribbon (my stash), Flower (MFT Royal Rose Die-namics Die/PTI Felt), Martha Stewart Crystal Fine Glitter
Extras: Scor-Pal, Cuttlebug Embossing Folder, White Felt (to line bottom of box), Foam Tape

Please check out the rest of the DT's creations here, along with the challenge details.  We hope you will play along...I'd love to see your ABC project!

Sketch Saturday #349

Good morning!  Saturday means a new sketch at the Sketch Saturday challenge blog!  As always, it's a fun one!   Our sponsor for the week is A Random Fan; they have some adorable images!   Here's our sketch:

I picked some patterned papers and colored my image to match, but I just wasn't liking the finished result....  Then I had the idea to go with an all white card base; it turns out that I like the simplicity!  I've used textured vellum for the slanted panel and white brads to secure the banner.

Summer Kisses

Good morning!  We have a new challenge for you from Flat Friends...we would like you to use an uncolored image...what a fun twist!

Since it's Labor Day and we are saying goodbye to summer, I chose Em's image Summer Kisses...I love her glasses and floppy hat!  Since the image is black and white, I thought I would play with texture.  I've used textured vellum, dry embossing, grosgrain ribbon, and just a touch of glitter on the hearts.  I printed the image multiple times to achieve the dark outline, then popped it up on the card.

Image: Flat Friends 'Summer Kisses' Digital Image
Ink: Printer
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select and Vellum
Embellies: Art Glitter in "Angel Dust", White Grosgrain Ribbon (stash)

Anyone for Ice Cream?

Good morning...it's Tuesday so that means we have a new sketch for you at Tuesday Morning Sketches!  It's a fun one...check it out:

I used a new set, from The Cat's Pajamas, that had just been delivered.  I thought it would be really fun to paper piece the ice cream and the bowl...until I was into the project....  LOL  There are actually 10 pieced adhered to the original stamped image.  The bowl is pieced with vellum, which worked perfectly.  I dotted the bunny's eyes with a black gel pen and added glitter to the umbrella.  I kept the rest of the layout simple, embellishing with Bella Dots and Swarovski Crystals...I did try to use a ribbon, but it just didn't look right, so no ribbon.

Image: The Cat's Pajamas
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Sakura Black Gel Pen

Good morning!  We have a new challenge for you at Ruby's Rainbow; for this fortnight, Caz has chosen our challenge and it is "On the Beach".  Sounds fun!

I figured I couldn't go wrong with Bugaboo's Margaret!  She's colored with pencils and her (not so) teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini is embellished with glitter, along with her glasses.  The layout is the Deconstructed Sketch and I've used vellum clouds, a sparkly sun, and beads for embellishing.  I only hope I look this "Hot Hot Hot" (or as my 15 year old daughter would say "Hawt") when I hit the local beach!  LOL

Good morning!  The ladies at Ruby's Rainbow have a new challenge; for this fortnight, Shaz has chosen "Film or Song Title" for our theme.  Bet you know what I picked, right?

That's right, "Frosty the Snowman"!  I have used some of the contents from a card kit sent to me by my Secret Sister, Jessica.  Isn't the snowman image darling?  I couldn't resist using him for this challenge!  Also, if you look carefully, you will see the music on the DP.  The image is colored with pencils and I've accented it with 2 kinds of glitter along with a black gel pen.  The sketch is from Sketch Saturday; I've used a die from The Cat's Pajamas, a bit of vellum, some twill, and mini brads for embellishing.
