Love at First Sip

Good morning!  It's time for a new challenge at Ruby's Rainbow; for this fortnight, Vickie has chosen our challenge...it is "For the Birds".  Of course, that made me think of the Birdbrains!

I've used a newer FTHS image; it's colored with pencils and I've added some glittery "eye shadow".  I spent quite a bit of time searching my stash to locate the coffee bean patterned paper...I knew it would be perfect though!  The "coffee rings" and sentiment are from Verve, and I've used Bella Dots for embellishing.

Image: From the Heart Stamps "Birdbrain Needs Coffee" Digital Image
Sentiment: Verve
Ink: Printer, Memento Tuxedo Black, Palette Burnt Umber
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select, SU! Baja Breeze and Poppy Parade, McRice Photo Pages Patterned Paper

Life Happens Over Coffee

Good morning; I'm back with a new challenge from Tuesday Morning Sketches!  This week Jessi has chosen her favorite sketch from last year and she is also our sponsor; it's also a judged challenge, so there is the additional twist of "Tone on Tone/Monochromatic".  Guess what you'll be playing for?  Jessi's amazing crocheted mats...in Valentine colors!  I am guessing you will want to play along (wink)!

I've made a shabby chic style card today...I thought it would go perfectly with the crocheted mat; I've done some distressing and paper piecing, then embellished with a flower and some mini brads.  Sometimes it's fun to go grubby!

Things with Wings

Good morning!  It's time for a new challenge at Ruby's Rainbow; for this fortnight, Angelique has chosen our challenge and it is "Things with Wings".

I was tempted to go with a chick, but went with a butterfly instead.  The sketch is from Sparkle and Sprinkle.  The butterfly is paper pieced and I've done a bit if distressing and added pearls for embellishing.

Image: Verve
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: PTI Aqua Mist and Dark Chocolate, Prima "Madeline" DP
Embellies: Spare Parts Pearls

CAS: And the day came....

Good morning!  We have got another fun challenge for you over at Tuesday Morning Sketches; our sponsor for the week is CAS-ual Fridays Stamps, so in addition to the sketch we would like to see a clean and simple card.  Sounds like a fun challenge, right?!

I decided to use white with cream accents.  I did a bit of scoring, added a vellum strip topped with a banner, followed by a layered sentiment, and embellished with a felt flower and pearls.  I am liking the white/cream combo for a change of pace.  (I had a hard time getting a good photo...I was trying to capture the detail of the scoring and the vellum.  Does anyone have any tips on photographing white cards?  I would love it if you would share your knowledge...thank you!)

Sentiment: Verve Stamps
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select and Vellum
Embellies: Handmade Felt Flower (PTI Vintage Cream Felt), The Paper Studio Pearls
Extras: MFT Royal Rose Die-namics Die, The Cat's Pajamas CutUps Die (leaf), Spellbinder's Nestabilities

I hope you will head on over to the TMS blog to check out the rest of the DT's creations...it's a great line-up!  Give the sketch a try for a chance to win a prize from CAS-ual Fridays Stamps....

Creative Card Crew Chocolate Challenge

Good morning!  It's time for another fun challenge from the Creative Card Crew; for this fortnight, our challenge is chocolate...mmm!  I've had a lot going on lately and I confess to running out of time, so I ended up using a card I had CASE'd from Wanda, of Cullen-ary Creations.  I thought it was so cute, that I made a few for my stash.  I changed the colors and the sentiment, but stuck with her layout and diecut shapes.

Sentiment: Verve
Ink: Palette Burnt Umber
Paper: PTI Fine Linen and Dark Chocolate,  Doodlebug Glitter CS, Bo Bunny DP
Embellies: Bella Dots
Extras: Spellbinder's Nestabilites, PTI Border Die

I hope you will check out the rest of the DT's cards and play along for a chance to win a prize from Pizzazz Aplenty.

I'm realizing it's been a week since I posted; it has been whirlwind the past 2-3 weeks.  My 14 year old has kept me hopping.  She plays AAU volleyball and had a sore, bruised back from "digging" and rolling to her back to jump up.  When I checked her back, I discovered she has scoliosis...I felt sick to my stomach.  Our visit, the next day, to our family doctor confirmed my suspicions.  Next stop was X-Rays...which made me even sicker to my stomach...and a visit to an orthopedic surgeon, who is a friend and colleague .  We are heading to a pediatric orthopedic surgeon, whose specialty is spines, tomorrow.  We will find out more about her treatment plan then.  My friend thinks she will likely be in a brace for 20 hours a day, which will prevent further curvature, but will not fix the damage already done.  Only surgery, consisting of hooks and rods in her spine, will fix that.  It has been an emotional time...I wish it was me instead.  My daughter is an athlete; it's hard to understand how/why this could be missed during her athletic physicals.  So, all you mothers out there, please check your daughters' backs...now!  I understand that this doesn't occur in schools like it used to.  Do you all remember the school nurse checking your back?  That simple screen is very important!

In addition to this, she had just started a cupcake fundraiser to raise money for a trip overseas the summer of 2014.  It has really taken off; right now we are living and breathing cupcakes...dozens and dozens of them!

Thanks for stopping by!

Thankful Thoughts

Good morning and Happy New Year!  Did you sleep in this morning?  I am scheduled to work...lucky me!  LOL  Let's get to business, shall we?  It's time for a new sketch challenge from Tuesday Morning Sketches.  Our sketch was designed by Melissa and our sponsor for the week is Floppy Latte, who let me pick this gorgeous image called "Ribbon Flair".  When I saw the pretty, vintage silhouettes, I knew I wanted to use one...the hard part was picking which one!   I love the vintage flair...thank you, Floppy Latte!

I resized and printed my image on DP; the sentiment is also stamped on on DP. I distressed the papers and added buttons, Swarovski crystals, and a felt flower for embellishing.  I wish you could see a close-up of the inside of the flower; I wadded up a scrap of black CS and glued it into the inside...it has some really nice texture.  I also added the swirl (from the right side of the diecut) to the felt leaf.

Image: Floppy Latte
Sentiment: Verve (free stamp with an order)
Ink: Printer, Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: PTI Autumn Rose and True Black, My Mind's Eye Lost and Found "Madison Avenue"
Embellies: PTI Autumn Rose Buttons, Swarovski Flatback Crystals in "Black Diamond"
Extras: SU! Oval Punch, Spellbinder's Die (sentiment), MFT Large Royal Rose Die-namics Die (PTI Autumn Rose Felt), Green Felt (my stash), The Paper Studio Sticky Doos

Have a Holly Jolly Christmas

Good morning! I had a day off yesterday and had the opportunity to play the Splitcoaststampers sketch challenge. It was a fun sketch...will probably use it again for another card....

I used the My Mind's Eye 12 Days of Christmas pad and went for a bright and cheery look...I think the non-traditional colors are fun! Fluffles is colored with pencils, his eyes are dotted with a black gel pen, and the ornaments are accented with glitter. I added a sentiment from Verve, some ribbon, and brads to finish the card.

Image: Stampendous
Sentiment: Verve "Holly Jolly"
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select and Pure Poppy, SU! Bermuda Bay
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Sakura Black Gel Pen
Embellies: SU! Red Grosgrain Ribbon, Spare Parts Brads, Barbara Trombley's Art Glitter in "Angel Dust"
Extras: Prismas/Goo Gone, Tim Holtz Piercing Ruler, Lasting Impressions Piercer, The Paper Studio Sticky Doos

Below is a picture of the January card kit made for my S.S. I went with a winter theme; included were images from Stampendous and Kraftin' Kimmie, DP from Imaginisce (also a matching stamp), cardstock, diecut snowflakes, ribbons, and assorted brads. I really like making these and keep thinking it would be really fun to be able to do something creative like this for a living. No, I won't quit my day job! LOL

Thanks so much for stopping by; I hope you have a great day!

Noah's Baptism Card

Hello! Today I have a card I made for a co-worker; this is for her great nephew's baptism. Her only request was that it have his name on the card. Well, that was pretty simple...I like it that way!

The layout is from a card I previously made using this Verve set, but that card was for a little gal and was made with pink and white. I didn't have a great match for the blue in the DP, so I decided to use dark gray (it looks more black-ish in the photos) to mat the panels. I tell you, I fiddled around with buttons and assorted ribbons, but decided to leave this one a bit more plain. The more I look at it, the more it grows on me; I do like that you can read a lot of the words in the DP, which I love. I am just hoping my co-worker likes it too!

Image: Verve "Practically Perfect"
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select and Smokey Shadow, Pebbles DP
Embellies: Alphabet Beads (Hobby Lobby)
Extras: Prismas/Goo Gone, Spellbinder's Nestabilities, The Paper Company Sticky Doos

Tips and Tricks:
I wanted the words in the DP to match up, but didn't want to waste paper. I put the dies onto my DP and measured to make sure they were just right, then held them in place with a bit of painter's tape before running the paper through the Cuttlebug. I had to be careful and get it precise because the narrow scalloped border left no wiggle room. One other thing to mention if you try this trick is to only run the paper through as far the die (then roll backwards), otherwise the paper can wrinkle.... Then you have to press it out with a bone folder.... Don't ask me how I know...I just do!

Thanks for stopping by today!

TMS#91

Hello! Long time no see.... It has been busy at work; lots of overtime.... I'm happy to be back today with another challenge from Melissa at Tuesday Morning Sketches. Our sponsor this week is Digi Doodle Shop.

I did very little coloring this week; the baskets/ropes are shaded gray, while the balloons were paper pieced. I spent a lot of time trying to find coordinating colors/patterns, but I finally decided to go with one DP and add a touch of black. Once I made a plan, this card went fairly fast. The planning is what seems to take the most time for me...how about you?

Image: Digi Doodle Shop
Sentiment: Verve "Relax" Clear Set
Paper: Gina K. Designs Pure Luxery, PTI True Black, SU! Sweet Pea DSP
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, SU! Black Marker
Embellies: Bella Dots
Extras: Spellbinder's Nestabilities, Prisma Pencil

You can find the sketch on the Tuesday Morning Sketches blog; I can't wait to see how the other ladies interpreted this sketch...I thought it a bit challenging! I kept thinking Christmas ornaments....

Thanks for stopping by; have a great day!

Baby Emerson

Hello! A friend of mine asked me to make a card for her new neice, Emerson. She likes the names spelled with beads, so I just duplicated a card I had made before. I just switched out the ribbon for some beads. I hope she likes the quirky color combo!

Image/Sentiment: Verve "Practically Perfect"
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select, SU! Pretty in Pink, Pumpkin Pie, My Mind's Eye DP
Embellies: Beads from Hobby Lobby, Barbara Trombley's Art Glitter in "Pink Smoothie"
Extras: Crayolas/Goo Gone, Spellbinder's Nestabilities, DMC Floss, EK Success 3D Dots

Speaking of babies.... Do any of you know of any good babysitting books? Since DD is 12, she would like to start babysitting. A friend from work just had her second baby and she is interested in a sitter. Her kids are 3 months and 1 1/2 years! Wow, she is a busy mom for sure!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Good morning! Welcome to the Anni-VERVE-sary Blog Hop! (The blog hop starts officially at 9 a.m. Central, but I posted a bit early because I had to work.) Verve turns three today and we’re celebrating with a hop, hop, hop! If you've already been hopping along, you arrived here from Terri's blog. If not, head on over to Julee's blog for all the info on how to win prizes (after all, what's a party without presents?), and to start hopping from the beginning. If there's a hiccup along the hop, you can always head to the Master Hop List to get the full list of links.

I went for a clean and simple look today, since I wanted to keep the focus on the sentiment and the beautiful DP. The Serenity Prayer, from Verve's "Serenity" set, has long been a favorite of mine and I paired it with some papers from the "Lush" collection by My Mind's Eye. The card is embellished simply with cream trim and Swarovski flatback crystals.
Sentiment: Verve "Serenity" Set
Ink: Palette Burnt Umber
Paper: PTI Vintage Cream and Dark Chocolate, My Mind's Eye "Lush" Collection
Embellies: Swarovski Flatback Crystals in "Smokey Topaz", Cream Trim (my stash)
Extras: Spellbinder's Nestabilities, EK Success 3D Dots
Thanks for hopping by! Now it's time to hop on over to Angela's Blog, for a little more Verve-y goodness.

Verve Release Challenge Cards

Hello! Today I thought I would share the Verve cards I made for the release challenges. There were a total of 5 challenges and you had different sketches you could choose from for each one. Since I LOVE a sketch challenge, I knew I had to play along when I came across the thread on SCS. I had a great time playing, even though I wasn't lucky enough to win new stamps.... Maybe next time!

Challenge #1 I tried to keep it casual; I did a lot of sponging instead of matting the layers. The surfboards are cut out and popped up; I glued the DP to CS so it would be a bit sturdier. I finished it off with some Bella Dots.

Image/Sentiment: Verve "Relax"
Ink: Palette Burnt Umber
Paper: PTI Kraft, Making Memories "Great Escape" DP
Embellie: Bella Dots
Extra: EK Success 3D Dots

Challenge #2 I used some really pretty shimmer paper for this one, but it's hard to see it in the photo. The snowman is colored, cut out, and popped up.

Image: Verve "Snow Wonderful"

Sentiment: Verve "Ornamental Christmas"

Ink:Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select, SU! Soft Sky and Garden Green, Reminisce DP
Embellie: Sky Satin Ribbon (my stash)
Extras: Prismas/Goo Gone, Spellbinders Nestabilities, EK Success 3D Dots

(I have no idea why the spacing is so wonky...I can't fix it for some reason!)

Challenge #3 I love making baby cards so this was a fun one! I experimented using a different DP for the small squares, but decided I liked it best using the same DP. There's a bit of glitter on the bunny's beads, too.

Image: Verve "Practically Perfect
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select, SU! Regal Rose, DCWV DP
Embellie: SU! Rose Grosgrain Ribbon, Barbara Trombley's Art Glitter in "Pink Smoothie"
Extras: Prismas/Goo Gone, Spellbinders Nestabilities, EK Success 3D Dots

Challenge #4 I worked and worked on this one...I just couldn't get it right! Finally I walked away and had better luck later. The butterfly wings are raised a bit for dimension, and I added some half pearls to finish it off.

Sentiment: Verve "Hebrews 11:1"
Image: Verve "Enjoy"
Ink: Palette Burnt Umber
Paper: PTI Vintage Cream, SU! So Saffron, My Mind's Eye DP
Embellie: Hero Arts Half Pearls
Extra: Spellbinders Nestabilities

Challenge #5 I found this DP on a recent shopping trip and I just love the colors! The butterfly was cut out before applying glitter to it's body and around the wings, and the wings are raised a bit for dimension.

Image/Sentiment: Verve "Beautiful Kindness"
Ink: SU! Night of Navy
Paper: PTI Stampers Select, SU! Rose Red and Lavendar Lace, American Crafts DP
Embellie: Barbara Trombley's Art Glitter in "Angel Dust"
Extra: Spellbinders Nestabilities

Well, I hope you enjoyed my very LONG post; I tried to vary the style and size of the cards just to keep it fresh and interesting!

Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy your weekend!

CAS MOJO128

I made a super simple card for the Mojo Monday challenge this week. I thought this DP was just too pretty to cover up! I embellished it simply with a flower and Swarovski crystals; it keeps the emphasis on the lovely sentiment.
Sentiment: Verve Floral Whimsey
Ink: Palette Burnt Umber
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select and Sweet Blush, SU! Garden Green, Basic Grey "Porcelain" DP
Embellies: Swarovski "AB" Flatback Crystals
Extras: Spellbinders Nestabilities, Martha Stewart Hydrangea Punches
Thanks for stopping by....

Hebrews 11:1

Good Sunday morning to you!

My card today is a combination of 2 challenges:
1. Mojo Monday---sketch challenge; we could make a round or square card.
2. Tuesday Morning Sketches---color challenge; the colors were cream, brown and light orange. The suggestion was SU! Apricot Appeal; I took out a sheet and I just wasn't feeling it, so I opted for Groovy Guava instead.

This card was pretty simple; I went with a dot theme as the DP, the embossed CS and the butterfly all have varying sizes of dots. The butterfly is by Cuttlebug; first you use the die to cut the shape, then you have a choice of 4 folders to emboss with. I have had the set for a long time, but hadn't used it; it's really pretty neat. I embellished with some satin ribbon and Swarovski flatbacks.

Sentiment: Verve
Ink: Palette Burnt Umber
Paper: PTI Vintage Cream and Dark Chocolate, SU! Groovy Guava CS and DSP
Embellies: PTI Dark Chocolate Satin Ribbon, Swarovski Flatback Crystals in "Smokey Topaz"
Extras: Spellbinders Nestabilities, Cuttlebug Swiss Dot Embossing Folder and Butterflies Cut and Emboss

I am still stuggling with the photo...contrast and all that good stuff.... I know what looks bad, but not always how to make it look good!

I hope you enjoy your Sunday!

MOJO126: Bundle of love

Hello again!

I was able to combine 2 challenges with this card:
1. Mojo Monday sketch challenge. Julee always has awesome sketches!
2. ...just a little something... paper piecing challenge. I like to follow TCP DT blogs and I found this on Joanne's blog. She will be having her 3rd Blogaversary and is holding weekly challenges! Fun!

I didn't exactly follow the sketch with this one; it was supposed to have a row of scallops on the top and bottom, but I thought it was just too busy, so I left them off. They probably would have worked if I had done less layering with the card base.

Image/Sentiment: Verve "Practically Perfect"
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: PTI Vintage Cream, SU! Pretty in Pink and Pumpkin Pie, My Mind's Eye DP
Embellies: SU! Pumpkin Grosgrain Ribbon, Barbara Trombley's Art Glitter in "Pink Smoothie"
Extras: Crayolas/Prismas/Goo Gone, Spellbinders Nestabilities, Foam Tape

Thanks for stopping by!

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Good Saturday morning!
I knew Verve was coming out with a new release yesterday, but I have never followed along prior to the release. I would just wait and check the Verve store. Well, on SCS they posted all kinds of challenges where you could win stamps and goodies. I happened to stumble across the challenges yesterday afternoon and I whipped up this card quick; it worked for the color and sketch challenges. I was not a winner, but I still had fun playing and will definitely play along again nest time. I love a good challenge; especially the sketch ones!
It seems I rarely make a card without DP anymore, but as you can see this one has none. I just used the Cuttlebug snowflake folder to add some texture to the turquoise. The snowflakes are cut with Spellbinders dies and glittered up. The turquoise one was sponged with a bit of black before adding the glitter; I thought that might help it to blend in a bit better.
***Note: The snowflake looks off-kilter in the photo. It's not in real life, and I didn't notice it when I was taking the photo. I am wondering if it was the angle? Or maybe the edges were bent up too high is some places? I will have to remember to watch this next time.....***
Sentiment: Verve "Christmas in the Air"
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: SU! Basic Gray, Basic Black, Tempting Turquoise, PTI Stamper's Select
Embellies: Wright's Black Grosgrain Ribbon, Doodlebug Glitter, Spare Parts Black Brad
Extras: Cuttlebug Snowflake Embossing Folder, Spellbinders Nestabilities, Foam Tape
I am a person who does not like the cold, so my card reminds me to see the beauty now as well.... Children playing in the snow, the frost on the trees, the snow coming down heavy---those really are wonderful things!
Thanks for stopping; I hope you see some "wonderful" in your day!

MOJO120: Hebrews 11:1

I am just squeaking by with this card tonight! Whew! (My brother had asked me for some computer help, which is a bit funny since I am not by any means a whiz! So, I was busy helping him.) This was a great MOJO Monday sketch; I think the layout was perfect for using a sentiment. Julee has some beautiful sentiments over at Verve, along with fabulous images.

I thought of this paper right away when sitting down to make this card. I found it at Stamping Bella and had to have it; funny thing is, I use very little mustard.... There was just something about it.... The patterns are beautiful and a sheet of diecuts was included in the package. I don't really use these, so I was so happy that I thought of using one of them for the sentiment. I did trim it with my Spellbinders after stamping.

I pretty much followed the sketch, including the embellishments. I wanted to let the paper and Bible verse shine. It is embellished simply with some satin ribbon and Swarovski crystals.

Sentiment: Verve
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: SU! Basic Gray, Basic Black, So Saffron, My Mind's Eye DP
Embellies: Black Satin Ribbon, Black Swarovski Flatback Crystals
Extras: Spellbinders, Cuttlebug Embossing Folder, Foam Tape

Thanks for stopping by!
