Catch the Bug's Christmas in July: Jingle All the Way

Good morning!  Today kicks off Catch the Bug's Christmas in July week, which will run through July 17th.  We are in for a fun week...I hope you will join us!

The theme for today is "Jingle All the Way".  I went clean and simple today and made a card that could be constructed easily in multiples.  The image is colored with pencils, cut out, and mounted to die cuts.  I have scored 5 lines across the bottom of the card to ground the image, but had a hard time capturing the texture in the photo.

Ink: Printer
Paper: G.P. 110, PTI Pure Poppy, SU! Garden Green
Extras: Prismas/Goo Gone, Spellbinders Nestabilities, Scor-Pal, Foam Tape

Please check out the rest of the DT's creations here, along with the challenge details.  Play along for the chance to win awesome Bugaboo images!

Thank you for stopping by; see you tomorrow for another fun challenge!

Blossoms and Butterflies

Good morning!  We have a new challenge for you at Ruby's Rainbow; for this fortnight, Caz has chosen our challenge and she would like to see "Blossoms and Butterflies"...great choice!

I went clean and simple today to focus on the "blooms and butterflies".  My image is part of a trio called "Spring Baskets" from From the Heart Stamps; I've colored it with pencils and matted it with vellum.  I have also used a strip of vellum, to add texture, between two score lines on the card base; for embellishing I've added a touch of bling.

Paper: PTI Stamper's Select and Vellum
Embellies: Bling

Ruby's Rainbow ABC

Good morning!  It's time for a new challenge from the ladies at Ruby's Rainbow; for this fortnight, Valou has chosen our challenge and she would like to see "Anything But a Card".  Sounds like a good challenge!

I made a box to present a custom Baptism card that I made for a friend.  The box is very simple to make with the help of the Scor-Pal; the bottom is lined with white felt and the top is decorated with an embossed panel and a felt rose to coordinate with the card.  For the card, I've used white/cream...embossed CS, textured vellum, die cut onesie with glitter trim, ribbon, a felt flower, pearls and stickpins.  (The recipient loved it!)  Here's a close-up of the card:

Sentiment: Computer Generated (printed in gray)
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select and Vellum
Embellies: Spare Parts Pearls, Maya Road Stickpins, Grosgrain Ribbon (my stash), Flower (MFT Royal Rose Die-namics Die/PTI Felt), Martha Stewart Crystal Fine Glitter
Extras: Scor-Pal, Cuttlebug Embossing Folder, White Felt (to line bottom of box), Foam Tape

Please check out the rest of the DT's creations here, along with the challenge details.  We hope you will play along...I'd love to see your ABC project!

Challenges entered:

As You Like It: Favorite Anything But a Card
(Why?  An ABC challenge is always a bit hard for me; I always think "What should I make?"  My standby is gift packaging because it is inexpensive and really elevates the presentation of  the card or gift...even something simple can look extra special!)
Card and Scrap: Bling, Glitter, or Pearls (I used glitter and pearls.)
Crafting For All Seasons: Girly Girls
Penny's Paper Crafty: One For the Girls/Female Cards
The Crafting Cafe: Welcome Little One
Try It On Tuesday: Pearls for Girls

HB

Good morning!  It's time for a new challenge at Ruby's Rainbow, which I've combined with this week's From the Heart Stamps Sketch #79.  This fortnight Valou has chosen the challenge of "Anything Goes"...I went with a birthday card...always good to keep some in the stash!  Check out the FTHS sketch below:

Poor old Birdbrain doesn't look too happy about having a birthday!  She's colored with pencils and I've pulled some old patterned papers from my stash...they are some of my favorites.  I actually did score lines in the top panel and around the image, but it is hard to detect them in the photo...it does add a nice bit of texture in real life.  I've used ribbon and a die cut sentiment for embellishing.

Image: From the Heart Stamps "Birthday Candle Birdbrain" Digital Image
Ink: Printer
Paper: G.P. 110, PTI Berry Sorbet and Dark Chocolate, American Crafts Patterned Paper
Embellies: PTI Berry Sorbet Stitched Ribbon
Extras: Prismas/Crayolas/Goo Gone, Spellbinders Nestabilities, QuicKutz Handtool and Metro Alphabet, Scor-Pal, Foam Tape

Please check out Ruby's Rainbow DT creations here...we would love to have you play along!  You can view From the Heart Stamps DT inspiration cards here...there is still time to play along with the sketch challenge!

Flappy Birthday!

Good morning!  Welcome to our From the Heart Stamps September Blog Hop; our theme this month is "For the Bird{brains}"...hop along for some fabulous inspiration from the DT!

As you hop along, please leave a comment on each entry.  One random commentor will be selected on each blog to win an image of choice from the store.  Some DT members will be giving away the actual project created for the hop (Yes, I am!) so you may win an image and a card or project from some of the blogs.  In addition, one commentor on the From the Heart Stamps blog will win a $15 gift voucher to the store!

We are offering a really cool prize on the FTHS blog!  Have you ever had a great idea for a Birdbrain image?  Well, this is your chance!  One lucky winner will be selected randomly, from all the comments, to work with Faith to design a Birdbrain image!  How cool is that?!

We would also like to invite all of you to be a part of our hop this month.  There is an inlinkz on the bottom of the FTHS blog and on each individual blog.  Use one of the designer's tutorials and a Birdbrain image to play along.  We can't wait to see what you create!  If you are interested in guest designing for FTHS for the next few months, simply add GDT to your entry.  We are looking for 6 people to guest design for 2 month rotations over the next 6 months.  Hope you will play along!

If you have arrived from our Guest Designer Ruth's blog, you are in the right place.  If not, you may want to start at the From the Heart Stamps blog so that you don't miss anything.

Here is my card; followed by a short tutorial on how to make the gift box shown at the top of this post.  The box is great for a bulky card or just to elevate presentation.

My card is 5 1/2" square, so I have started with 2 pieces of CS cut at 6 5/8".

Score the first piece of CS 1/2" from the edge, on all four sides.

Score the second piece of CS, on all 4 sides.  Note in the second picture that the edge of the CS doesn't go quite to the 1/2" line.  This piece will used for the lid and will be just a tiny bit bigger; I like it to fit nice and snug.

Fold and crease the scored lines with a bone folder.  Next cut to the scored line on each of the corners; it will look like this:

Apply a small amount of glue to the outside of the tab; you will then tuck the tab to the inside.

Here is the completed box...top and bottom.  You are now ready to embellish your box; you can go all out or just keep it simple like I did today.  I wanted to card and box to be cohesive.

I have added a piece of white felt to the bottom of the box, along with a belly band using coordinating patterned papers.  Again, here is a picture of the card in the box:

Image: FTHS "Flappy Birthday Birdbrain" Digital Image
Ink: Printer
Paper: G.P. 110, PTI Stamper's Select, SU! Real Red, American Crafts Patterned Paper
Embellies: Martha Stewart "Candy Apple" Glitter, Spare Parts Brads, PTI Pure Poppy Twill
Extras: Prismas/Goo Gone, Spellbinders Nestabilities, Scor-Pal, White Felt, Foam Tape

Now head on over to Calypso's blog to see her fabulous creation!

Thanks for hopping with us today; the hop will end on Sunday, September 14th at 6:00 a.m. EST.  Winners will be posted, on the From the Heart Stamps blog, on Wednesday, September 17th.

Thank you for stopping by!

I {Heart} U

Hello; it's time for the monthly Flat Friends challenge!  For February we would like to see a card with more than one fold...sounds fun, right?!  I went to SCS and looked through all the tutorials before deciding to try the Treat Box Card; it was hard to choose one since there were so many...what a great resource.

With the use of a Scor-Pal, the box was really quite easy to construct.  You could really dress it up, but I kept it simple with just some DP.  I've used one of Emma's darling Valentine images; she is both colored and paper pieced and I've also added a bit of sparkle.  The image panel is simply adhered to the card front.

Image: Flat Friends "I Love You" Digital Image
Ink: Printer, SU! Going Gray Marker
Paper: PTI Vintage Cream, SU! Strawberry Slush, Pinecone Press DP
Embellies: Art Glitters in"Polar Bear" and "Pink Smoothie"
Extras: SU! Oval Punch, Spellbinder's Nestabilities, Corner Chomper, Hershey Nuggets

Please check out all the "fun fold" creations the DT have created to inspire you...we hope you will play along!

happy birthday to ewe!

Good morning!  Have you been playing along with Bugaboo's 4th Birthday celebration?  I sure hope so; there are some GREAT prizes up for grabs!  Wednesday is Humor Me Wednesday so we would like to see a funny birthday creation.

I thought this image was a hoot, so it was an easy choice for this challenge.  It's colored with pencils and I've done some simple layering and embellished with a twine-tied button.  This is attached to a simple, handmade birthday box with a surprise inside:

Moolah!  What young person doesn't appreciate some of that? (I will be saving this for my son's birthday.)  I printed a cute poem embellished with some DP corners for one side and for the other I rolled some bills, tied them with twine, and used just a touch of taperunner to hold them in place (they are easy to remove).  Voila'...card and gift all in one easy package!

Image: Bugaboo "Make it Snappy-Birthday Ewe" Digital Stamp
Ink: Printer
Paper: G.P. 110, PTI Pure Poppy and Dark Chocolate, Doodlebug DP
Embellies: PTI Dark Chocolate Button/Pure Poppy Baker's Twine

CAS: And the day came....

Good morning!  We have got another fun challenge for you over at Tuesday Morning Sketches; our sponsor for the week is CAS-ual Fridays Stamps, so in addition to the sketch we would like to see a clean and simple card.  Sounds like a fun challenge, right?!

I decided to use white with cream accents.  I did a bit of scoring, added a vellum strip topped with a banner, followed by a layered sentiment, and embellished with a felt flower and pearls.  I am liking the white/cream combo for a change of pace.  (I had a hard time getting a good photo...I was trying to capture the detail of the scoring and the vellum.  Does anyone have any tips on photographing white cards?  I would love it if you would share your knowledge...thank you!)

Sentiment: Verve Stamps

Got Cake?

Good morning!  I decided to take a break from pink and Halloween and go with a clean and simple card today.  I love this fun image from Clear Dollar Stamps "Birthday Celebrations" set...it made me think of good, old-fashioned yellow cake with chocolate icing...yum!

I re-sized and printed the image, colored it with pencils, diecut it with Spellbinder's dies and adhered it to a plain cardbase...no DP!  I simply scored a couple of lines and added some gingham ribbon and a button...good old-fashioned embellishments!

Clear Dollar Stamps July Release

Good morning!  I have a few new sets and samples from Clear Dollar Stamps to share with you today, so let's get to it!

First up is a set called "Veterinary Clinic"; as soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to work with it!  I made a scrapbook page featuring our puppy Paisley.  She is 7 weeks in the photo...I can't believe how tiny she looks!  She is close to 4 months old now, and has gotten huge!  I chose a couple of images from the set and paired them with some text.  I added a bit of color with pencils (I used purple to complement the color of her collar) and finished the page with a photo of Paisley.

Image/Sentiment: Clear Dollar Stamps "Veterinary Clinic" Digital Set
Ink: Printer
Paper: G.P. 110, SU! Basic Gray and Elegant Eggplant
Extras: Prismas/Goo Gone, QuicKutz Hand Tool and Photo Corner Die, The Paper Studio Sticky Doos

Next I have a couple of cards using a set called "Cherries on Top".  For my first card, I chose a bunch of cherries and paired it with a coordinating sentiment.  The cherries are colored with pencils and diecut with Spellbinder's dies.

Image/Sentiment: Clear Dollar Stamps "Cherries on Top" Digital Set
Ink: Printer (dark brown)
Paper: SU! Pink Passion, PTI Dark Chocolate, Doodlebug DP
Extras: Prismas/Goo Gone, Spellbinder's Nestabilities, The Paper Studio Sticky Doos

This card was fun to make because I learned some new tricks!  My daughter downloaded some free software so I can change the color of my images/sentiments, layer the images, etc.  Coming from a very non-technical person like myself, I must say I was elated when I was able to get all of the elements "just right"!  I lined up the cherries, added the cute little smilie face, and added a sentiment.  I was even able to position the  elements so I could just trim the CS, score a foldline and voila'!  I colored one cherry and scored some lines for definition.  I like the CAS look of this one.

Image/Sentiment: Clear Dollar Stamps "Cherries on Top" Digital Set
Ink: Printer
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select
Extras: Prismas/Goo Gone, Scor-Pal

The last set I'm showing today is called "Ice Cream Sticks".  It has a fun variety of images and sentiments, and I was eager to work with it as I am an ice cream lover!  I used a sketch from Charisma Cardz for my first card.  I paired the image with some fun, summery bright colored DP and colored the ice cream to coordinate.

Image/Sentiment: Clear Dollar Stamps "Ice Cream Sticks" Digital Set
Ink: Printer (dark brown)
Paper: PTI Hawaiian Shores and Dark Chocolate, Jillibean Soup DP
Extras: Prismas/Crayolas/Goo Gone, Spellbinder's Nestabilities, The Paper Studio Sticky Doos

I am also entering this card in the following challenges:

4 Crafty Chicks: Stripes
Crafting For All Seasons: Ice Cream/Popsicle

I used a sketch from the CAS blog for my next card.  The image is printed on CS and DP, then cut out and popped up.  I added a banner with the sentiment and some Bella Dots.

Image/Sentiment: Clear Dollar Stamps "Ice Cream Sticks" Digital Set
Ink: Printer (dark brown), SU! Marker (Close to Cocoa)
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select and Dark Chocolate, American Crafts DP
Embellies: Bella Dots
Extras: The Paper Studio Sticky Doos

I did some more paper piecing with my last card.  I popped the cone up and elevated the sentiment in the middle.  I finished with a couple Bella Dots.

Image/Sentiment: Clear Dollar Stamps "Ice Cream Social" Digital Set
Ink: Printer (dark brown), SU! Marker (Close to Cocoa)
Paper: PTI Kraft, Stamper's Select, Dark Chocolate, and Dotty Biscotti DP
Embellies: Bella Dots
Extras: The Paper Studio Sticky Doos

I am entering this card in Love to Create's 3 of Something challenge.

Well, that's it for today; I hope you will head on over to Clear Dollar Stamps to check out the new goodies!  Thanks for stopping by!

Birthday Cupcakes

Hello! How is your Monday going? I took a bit of time to relax, after working the weekend, by making a clean and simple card. I turned to my favorite little monkey...Changito! He is whipping up some birthday cupcakes...yum! Extra frosting for me, please!

I stamped a row of cupcakes, colored them, scored some lines for definition, then added a bit of glitter to the flames. I enhanced Changito's eyes with a gel pen, cut him out and mounted him with Nestabilities dies and popped him up. Easy peasy!

Paper: PTI Stamper's Select and Berry Sorbet
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Sakura Black Gel Pen
Embellies: Doodlebug Glitter
Extras: Prismas/Crayolas/Goo Gone, Scor-Pal, Spellbinder's Nestabilities, The Paper Studio Sticky Doos

For the card base: first I made a border using a sentiment, next I stamped a heart on top, last I added some scored lines. For the focal point: I paper pieced the image, added some googlie eyes, and mounted the image on DP cut with Spellbinder's dies. I popped the image up and voila'...a Halloween hottie! I just may give this to my DH....

I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Mother's Day 2011

Hello! Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers in blogland. I wanted to share the card I made for my Mom; I had hoped to post it earlier, but I finished up the gift box at the last minute today. Do any of you do things on the fly? I always seem to be running 2 steps behind....
The idea for this card came from the May/June issue of Paper Crafts Magazine; it was on page 72 and designed by Betsy Veldman. I just love her style...so beautifully shabby-chic! I do have to admit mine doesn't look a whole lot like hers, but my Mom loved it and that's what counts. I figured with the pink flower and bling, it was a sure bet! I did some sponging and used some dies and felt to make my embellishments.
Sentiment: Papertrey Ink Quilter's Sampler
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Palette Burnt Umber
Paper: PTI Lemon Tart, 7 Gypsies DP (double-sided)
Embellies: PTI Button, MAMBI Bling
Extras: Fiskars Border Punch, PTI Dressform Die and Felt (Raspbery Fizz, True Black), MFT Die-namics Rolled Rose Die and Felt (green), The Cat's Pajamas Cutup Die (leaf), Needle
I had bought my Mom some jewelry and decided to make a gift box to hold the card and the jewelry. I took a few photos and will give a brief description of the steps to make the box.

I like to make my box 1/8" bigger than the card. I wanted it to be 1 1/2" deep, so I added 3 1/8" to the dimensions of the card to make the base. The top is 1/16" larger. After cutting both pieces, I scored on all 8 sides with my Scor-Pal and then creased the score lines.

Next I snipped each corner to the center of the square of the scored lines, and then cut 1/2 of the square away. I used a tiny amount of glue to adhere the triangular portion to the inside of the box.

This photo shows the assembled box and embellished lid. I line the bottom of the box with Warm and Natural batting; cut the batting to fit and adhere with a bit of glue. I decided to make a compartment to hide the jewelry (top left), so I cut a piece 1/16" smaller than the base and added 3/4" for the sides. Score all 4 sides, fold, and this time cut out the entire square in the corner. I pierced a hole in the center and used some floss for a pull loop (the floss is knotted on the underside).

Here's the finished box with the extra layer. I made the extra layer so that I could include the jewelry in the box, while having the card lie flat. The top is embellished with some sponged DP, a monogram, a button and some bling.

Here's the finished box with the card...I have to say my Mom really liked the box! I have made quite a few of them and it really dresses up the presentation of the card. She liked the jewelry too; so much that she immediately put on all 3 pieces! I don't think the necklaces were designed to wear together, but they looked nice all the same.... I had bought some Monet earrings and a necklace a couple of months ago. I went back to the same store a couple of weeks ago and found another coordinating necklace...on clearance. It was $6.99; the original price was $48. I couldn't pass up that deal, so now she has options!
I hope you had a fabulous Mother's Day today and were able to spend time with your loved ones!

TMS#74

Good morning! This will be our last challenge of the year from Melissa at the Tuesday Morning Sketches blog. Our sponsor this week is Soft Pencil...aren't these sailors adorable?

This card is pretty straight forward: the image is colored with pencils and the sailor's eyes are dotted with a black gel pen. The DP is by My Mind's Eye. I added some red brads for interest and scored a few lines with my Scor-Pal to add a bit of texture to the card base. The image panel is popped up.

Merry Christmas to All!

Good Monday morning; I hope you had a great weekend! I am slowly plugging away at all the things that need to be done before Christmas...time is running out! One of the things that I didn't get done this year is mailing Christmas cards...that is pretty sad coming from a cardmaker! I stive to be like Martha and I always seem to fall short; maybe I need "staff"!

Friday night there was a wonderful package waiting for me when I got home from work. It was the "reveal" from the Secret Sister swap. My Secret Sister was no surprise to me, since I hosted this round, but the package sure was. What a wonderful assortment of goodies! A package like that can only be chosen by another stamper....

I have all the goodies layed out in my work area, and they distracted me this morning. Instead of working on my list, I "had" to dig in and make a card. I figure I was able to satisfy my urge to create and also to wish my blogging friends a "Merry Christmas"!

Sentiment: PTI Communique Curves
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: SU! So Saffron, Basic Grey "Jovial" Collection
Embellies: Hero Arts Poinsettia, Me & My Big Ideas Rhinestones
Extras: Scor-Pal, Spellbinder's Nestabilities, PTI Dressform Die/True Black Felt

Friends and fellow bloggers, this one is dedicated to you! May you have the merriest of holiday seasons and a happy, healthy new year!

Thanks for stopping by; enjoy your day!

Pure Innocence Birthday Card and Box

Hello! Hope your weekend is going well! I was unexpectedly put on call today; I'm crossing my fingers that the phone doesn't ring.... We are having a winter festival in our town today, so there are lots of fun things to do. Later today they are having the "Polar Bear Dip" where you can watch the brave take a dip in the lake for charity. It's fun event; sometimes the groups of dippers have a theme. One year some were dressed up like characters from the Wizard of Oz.
I thought I should put my time to good use and finish up a card my Mother asked me to make for her friend's birthday. It's a lot like the one I made for her birthday; I just changed up the layout and DP. I really like the Pure Innocence images; they are just so sweet...and fun to paper piece too!
Image: MFT Pure Innocence "Birthday Princess"
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: PTI Vintage Cream and Dark Chocolate, My Mind's Eye DP
Embellies: Cream Organza Ribbon, PTI Dark Chocolate Twill, PTI Buttons, DMC Floss, Ranger Distress Stickles in "Antique Linen"
Extras: Prismas/Crayolas/Goo Gone, Spellbinder's Nestabilities, Scor-Pal, QuicKutz Blossom Alphabet, EK Success 3D Dots
I made a quick box to present the card it, using my Scor-Pal. The inside is lined with some Warm and Natural batting to cushion the card. This one is going all the way to Washington DC.
Thanks for stopping by today; enjoy the remainder of your weekend!

CAS95: A Few of My Favorite Things

Good Monday morning! What a great start to the week it was to get to play the SCS CAS challenge. Today it was flowers (which I love!) and I decided to add a few more of my favorite things.... Basic Grey paper, felt, the new PTI die, and Swarovskis! Really, it doesn't get much better that this!

I am enamored of this new PTI die...I don't know why, but it speaks to me! Today I used black felt. In fact, I ran all of my dies through the Cuttlebug at once. This was a really quick card: I scored a few lines, diecut some pieces, stamped a sentment and glued it all together...voila'! I plan to make some more of these to add to my basket.

Sentiment: PTI "Scattered Showers"
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: SU! River Rock, Basic Grey Stella Ruby
Embellies: Swarovski Flatback Crystal in "Black Diamond", Handmade Flower
Extras: Scor-Pal, Spellbinder's Nestabilities, PTI Dressform Die/True Black Felt, MFT Die-namics Rolled Flower Die/Felt, The Cat's Pajamas CutUp Flower Buttons Die (leaf)/MFT Felt

That's it for today; I'll be back tomorrow with another challenge from Tuesday Morning Sketches....

Have a great day!

CAS90: Pumpkin Chick

Good Monday morning! I hope you all had a great weekend!
I thought I would take a quick peek at the Clean and Simple Challenge over at SCS; I decided I had to play along since the challenge was to use gingham or checks. I thought for sure that there was some black/orange gingham ribbon in the stash, but I came up empty. I made my own by coloring the ribbon with a SU! marker. Although my fingers are a lovely shade of orange, it was pretty simple and worked like a charm.
This card was super fast and easy. The chick is colored with pencils, accented with glitter, and cut out with Nestabilities. I scored a couple of lines on the cardbase, added the ribbon, tied it off with floss, and added the image panel. Voila'!

DeNami is giving away THREE $20 gift certificates to their website! They'll be giving away one gift certificate to a random participant and TWO gift certificates to TWO people who comment along the hop! How cool is that?!

If you are here for the hop, you probably arrived from Annette's blog: Feeding the Soul with Art If you encounter a hiccup during the hop, you can refer back to the DeNami Design blog.

I have actually made 3 CAS cards for the hop. I used the same stamp, colored the same way, for each card. The images are colored with Primsacolor Pencils and Goo Gone. I thought it would be fun to show how you can get different looks with the same stamp.

First up is a card using a technique that I love to do...it's as easy as 1-2-3! Pierce, score, embellish.... This technique is quick and easy and I love the fun little border it creates! I went monochromatic with the cardstock and choose Swarovski "AB" Crystals for embellishing. I was so glad I was able to capture the pink shimmer of the crystals when I photographed the card.

For my second card, I again kept the card monochromatic with shades of cream. The felt flower is cut with a Spellbinder's die; I added some pearls and finished off the card with some satin ribbon.

For my third card, I was going for a Tiffany effect with the blue card base, made with Bazzill Bling which has such a lovely shimmer. I embellished with white satin ribbon topped with a taffeta gingham ribbon. This card measures 4x4.

CAS Neopolitan Chicks

Good morning! What's up? Today I have a clean and simple card to share with you; I sent one of these to my Secret Sister in her reveal package earlier this week.
I tend to be a fan of "chicks" in general, and these DeNami chicks are no exception.... I love their tiny size and they are a bit whimsical too! I thought of neopolitan ice cream right away when I saw the 3 chicks. They were super easy to color with my Crayolas and the card went together quickly too. I stamped a row of the chicks and scored a couple of lines for a bit of definition. The image panel is cut with Nestabilities and popped up with foam tape. The sentiment is from Hero Arts. I think this card is truly clean and simple with all the white space.
