happy easter

Good morning! I have an Easter card to share today; this image actually has coordinating birthday sentiments but I think it's fun for Easter too! I've colored the image with pencils and accented the dots and her eyelids with glitter. I kept it clean and simple and went with one of my favorite "stand-by" layouts. I've added a sentiment, ribbon, and pearls for embellishment.

I have a tip to share! Sometimes the patterned paper will show through the ribbon; see the right side of the photo, you can see the dots. Now check the left side...no dots!  Simply cut a piece of cardstock the width of the ribbon, add a touch of glue, and slide it under the ribbon. It's a quick and easy fix and makes the finished card look more polished.

Here's a close-up of the finished card:

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Good morning!  It's time for another challenge from the ladies at Ruby's Rainbow; for this fortnight Pat has chosen our challenge and  it is..."April Showers Bring May Flowers"...what a fun theme!

I chose one of the adorable Calendar Chicks from my collection...I love them!  (I use a lot of digis so it was fun to actually stamp for a change of pace!)  As I was looking through my papers for a delicate floral, I came across this fun paper and knew it would be perfect.  The chick is colored with pencils; her eyes are accented with a black gel pen, the umbrella is coated with glitter, and the flower has a pearl center.  I've done some simple layering and embellished with a flower/pearl.  Clean and simple...it's fun for a change!  Here's a close-up:

Image: Stampendous "Shower Chick"
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Signo Black Gel Pen
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select and Berry Sorbet, Echo Park Patterned Paper

Sketch Saturday #403

Good morning sketch fans!  We have a fun new sketch for you along with a new sponsor...Simon Says Stamp!  Here's our sketch:

I realized that St. Patrick's Day was almost here and I had yet to make any cards!  How could that be?  I whipped out one of my favorite characters...Changito!  (I use a lot of digis and I have to say that it was fun to break out the ink and actually stamp an image!)  The image is colored with pencils and I've added some subtle glitter to the shamrocks.  I've done some simple layering and embellished the card with a row of brads...I like how the black "pops" against the green!  (When I was uploading this, I was wondering if I should have went with a white card base?  What do you think?)  Here's a close-up of the sparkle:

I've used one of the Changito stamps from my stash...I love Changito!  We are having cold weather here, along with some snow, so I thought he was perfect.  He's colored with pencils, his eyes are dotted with a black gel pen, and the cream trim on his hat, mittens and boots is accented with a subtle glitter.  I put some of the extra sparkly stuff on the snow.  I've embellished simply with a die cut snowflake and some bling.

happy holly days

Good morning!  It's time for a new challenge at Ruby's Rainbow; for this fortnight Shaz has chosen our challenge and she would like to see "Red, White, and Blue".  Sounds fun!

Of course, I immediately thought patriotic, but then I saw the scraps of patterned paper on my table from a card I had recently made...I decided to go Christmas because aqua is blue, right?!  You bet!  I thought of my Santa Chick image (yes, I have a "thing" for chicks/birds!) and went in search of a sketch to use that would work with a smaller image.  I found the perfect sketch at Jo's Scrap Shack:

The chick is colored with pencils and her hat, the holly berry, and the ornament are accented with 3 different kinds of glitter.  I have done some simple layering with the image panel and switched placement to the opposite side so the chick wasn't looking off the edge.  The holly leaves with the sentiment were stamped on white, cut out, colored, and adhered in place.  Funny how it seemed like such a great idea until I was trying to cut those tiny leaves out..lol!  I've also added a touch of glitter to the holly berries in the sentiment.  Sadly, the photo does not capture the sparkly goodness of this card.

Go Lions!

Good morning!  It's time for a new challenge from the ladies at Ruby's Rainbow; for this fortnight Vickie has chosen our challenge and she would like to see your "Favorite Sport Theme".  Great challenge!

My favorite sport is cheer...yes, competition cheer is a sport!  My favorite kind of cheer, though, is wrestling; I never thought I would enjoy it but I truly do.  This will be my daughter's 3rd year on the wrestling squad; it's fun getting to know the wrestlers and cheering them on...these are the same boys I have known since they were in Kindergarten!

I have pulled a fun Changito stamp from my stash and turned her into "Changitette" by adding a bit of bling to her hair.  She is colored with pencils and accented with glitter.  I went with the "number" patterned paper because it is all about the numbers in wrestling!  I've done some simple layering and added Swarovski flatback crystals for embellishing.  I will save this one and give it to Ivy this fall when wrestling starts.

Good morning!  It's time for a new challenge from Ruby's Rainbow; it was my turn to pick the challenge for this fortnight and it's a Recipe Challenge: 1 Critter, 2 Patterned Papers, and 3 Embellishments (Example: 3 brads, 3 buttons, 3 flowers, etc.).  Sounds fun, right?!

For my critter, I had to go with Changito...he's my all-time favorite!  The image is colored with pencils and I've accented the snow with glitter.  I pulled out some bright and cheery papers from my stash and embellished with 3 snowflakes and a smattering of pearls.  I used the sketch from The Sketch File, minus the sentiment...I couldn't seem to make it work.  (Hmmm, why do I always have trouble with sentiments?)

Good morning!  It's time for a new challenge at Ruby's Rainbow; for this fortnight Helen has chosen our challenge..."For the One You Love".  Great challenge!

I knew that I didn't want to make a Valentine, so after thinking a bit I thought of this fun Changito image and paired it with some papers that aren't too Valentine-like, and the Sketch Saturday sketch.  Changito is colored with pencils and I've accented the balloon with glitter.  I've embellished simply with a button and floss.  I like how this one turned out...love the sunny pop of yellow!  Will keep this in my stash to give to one of the kids "just because".

Flower Pot Chick

Good morning!  It's time for a new sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches...it's a fun one!  Here it is:

I kept it simple by not matting my patterned paper.  Whenever I try this, I feel like the card is unfinished...it's hard to step out of the comfort zone.  It's good to switch things up though!  I used one of the Stampendous Calendar Chick images and it's colored with pencils.  I embellished with mesh (love how you can see the patterned paper through it!) and pearls.

Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Sakura Black Gel Pen
Paper: PTI Vintage Cream and Harvest Gold, Echo Park Patterned Paper
