Bugaboo: Christmas in July

Welcome to Catch the Bug's Christmas in July!  We have a fun week planned for you; lots of amazing challenges to play along with and amazing creations from the team to inspire you.  It's going to be a great week!

Today's theme is "Some of My Best Friends are Flakes!".  (That's right, we want to see snowmen and snowflakes!)  I was so excited for today because this type of card is one of my very most favorite to make!  I went with a fun image that I hadn't colored up before and paired it with a color challenge and a sketch challenge.  I've added some glitter to the "snow" in the image and used lots of glittery snowflakes and Swarovski flatbacks for embellishing.

FTHS June Blog Hop

Good morning; it's time for From the Heart Stamps June Blog Hop!  We have a fun and unique hop for you this month; every image is new and each designer was able to request a theme for Faith to design.  How fun is that?!?!

As you hop along, please leave a comment on each entry.  One random commentor will be selected on each blog to win the featured image on that blog!

In addition to the images offered on each blog, one very lucky hopper will be able to work with Faith to create an image!  When you comment here, please include what kind of image you would like if you win.

If you have arrived from the From the Heart Stamps blog you are in the right place, if not why don't you start at the From the Heart Stamps blog so that you don't miss anything?

Have courage and be kind...Cinderella  Wise words to live by!  When I saw the set(s) that Faith designed for me, I wasn't sure what route I would go with my "Glamour Birdbrain", but when I saw this sentiment I knew I had to use it and the shoes to match!  I Googled "Cinderella" for reference and decided to use her dress colors on my card...it's a bit "Tiffany-esque"!  On point with the "Glamour Girl" theme!

The image is colored with pencils; her bow is black in reference to the black choker Cinderella wears.  Of course, I've added some glittery "eye shadow".  (I had asked for lashes on my image, not only did I get them but I got eye liner too!  Love!)  I've done some simple layering and embellished with Swarovski flatbacks.  Here's a close-up:

Birdbrain Graduate

Good morning!  We have a new sketch to share with you at From the Heart Stamps and it's a great one! Along with the new sketch is the optional twist which is to "Use a Die Cut"; here it is:

Graduation is just a month away, so I thought I should be busy since I have a daughter graduating!  I pulled out some fun school themed papers from my stash and colored the Birdbrain to coordinate.  I've embellished with plenty of die cut stars and some Swarovski flatback crystals.  I also cut out some of the books from the patterned paper...my paper is a holey mess now since the books were scattered all over the 12 x 12 sheet.  My daughter's plan is to major in Microbiology and minor in Spanish, then go to med school with the ultimate goal of practicing Psychiatry, so I picked books that are relevant to her studies.  After I finished I realized the card wasn't too "girly", but the Birdbrain does have glittery "eye shadow" so that does have to count for something!  Haha!  Here's a close-up:

Image: From the Heart Stamps "Birdbrain Graduate" Digital Image

Project 100 Snowmen Blog Hop

Good morning!  It's time for From the Heart Stamps February Blog Hop; our theme this month is "Project 100 Snowmen"...hop along for some fabulous inspiration from the DT!

As you hop along, please leave a comment on each entry.  One random commentor will be selected on each blog to win an image of choice from Faith's store.

If you have arrived from the From the Heart Stamps blog you are in the right place, if not why don't you start at the From the Heart Stamps blog so that you don't miss anything?

We were challenged to create a card using one of Faith's "Project 100 Snowmen" images...this was such a fun theme since I happen to love snowmen!  For my card today I have used the adorable  "Snowman Valentine".   The image is colored with pencils and I've layered it with die cuts and foam tape to create a shaker card.  (Note to self: It's a good idea to look up a tutorial instead of "winging it" when trying a new technique!  LOL  I had paper and dies all over the place...next time I try one of these it will go much quicker!)  The beads are from SU!...I have had them in my stash for years and never used them...I'm really glad I  found them; surprisingly they were right where I thought they were!  LOL  I had planned to embellish with hearts, but I went with snowflakes and Swarovski flatback crystals.  The "snowy" paper and snowflakes are reminiscent of the blizzard we had earlier this week!  The sketch I used is from Die Cuttin' Divas.  Here are some detail close-ups:

Ink: Printer
Paper: G.P. 110 CS, SU! Baja Breeze CS, PTI Pure Poppy CS, Lawn Fawn Patterned Papers, The Paper Studio Glitter CS, PTI Acetate
Embellies: Swarovski Flatback Crystals in "Light Siam", SU! Beads
Extras: Prismas/Crayolas/Goo Gone, Spellbinders Nestabilities and Snowflake Die, Lawn Fawn Snowflake Dies, Foam Tape

Now head on over to Brenda's blog to check out her fabulous creation!

Thanks for hopping along with us today; the hop will end on Monday, February 8th at 6:00 a.m. EST.  Winners will be posted on the From the Heart Stamps blog on Wednesday, February 10th.

Sketch Saturday #395

Good morning sketch fans!  We have a new sketch for you, along with a new sponsor...Bunny Zoe's Crafts.  Here's the sketch:

I really love this one, even though I made some modifications.  I had to turn it into a square because of the image size, then I didn't have room for the banners on the bottom.  Ugh!  Hopefully you can still see the "bones" of the sketch!

We are in the midst of a cold snap here, so I went with a fun, winter image from The Cat's Pajamas.  I've colored the ewe with pencils and paper pieced her scarf and pockets.  The papers have been in my stash a long time and I like that the burgundy paper has a nice "knit" like texture to it.  I've embellished with snowflakes accented with Swarovski flatback crystals.

Here's a close-up of the snowflakes and paper piecing detail:

Image/Sentiment: The Cat's Pajamas

Ruby's Rainbow "Show Us Something New"

Good morning!  We are back from the holiday break with a new challenge for you; this fortnight Helen P. has chosen our challenge and it is "Show Us Something New."  Think new supplies, new technique, etc. Sounds fun!

I went with a new die that I "gifted" myself!  LOL  I layered the die cut over patterned paper to add a bit of interest and accented the snowflakes with Swarovski flatback crystals.  The crystals actually coordinate with the brown lettering, but they photographed darker.  A quick and simple card!  (Next time I will try a different method of adhering the die cut...I used a glue stick.  With all the detail, maybe a Xyron would be easier?  Anyone have any ideas?)

Paper: G.P. 110 CS, Carolees Creations Patterned Paper
Embellies: Swarovski Flatback Crystals in "Smokey Topaz"
Extras: Lil' Inker Designs Die

Please check out the rest of the DT's creations here, along with the challenge details.  We would love to see your "something new"!

You're Spectacular

Good morning!  It's time for From the Heart Stamps October Blog Hop; our them this month is "Meet the Design Team"...hop along for some fabulous inspiration from the DT, plus interesting facts and tips!

As you hop along, please leave a comment on each entry.  One random commentor will be selected on each blog to win an image of choice from Faith's store.  Additionally, we have a "Scavenger Hunt" game with some prizes on the FTHS blog.

If you have arrived from the From the Heart Stamps blog you are in the right place...I am first stop on the hop today!  We were to choose our favorite image and favorite technique for today's card.  While it is very hard to pick an overall "favorite" image, I went with the newest Birdbrain because it seems that each one that comes out is my new favorite!  My favorite techniques are Magic Pencil and using loose glitter.  Love the stuff...it just makes me happy!  It doesn't matter that gets everywhere...including my face...I just love the sparkly goodness!  Here's my card:

I thought of this fun patterned paper I had bought, but not yet used, when I saw this image...I knew it would be perfect!  I've colored the image with pencils and added red glitter and Swarovski flatbacks to the glasses, along with white glitter to her eyelids and spots on her tummy.  I used the sketch from Sweet Sketch Wednesday and modified it a bit; it's flipped, the center panel is tilted, and I've placed the center element to the left to better accommodate the sentiment.  I've embellished simply with some mesh and a button.  I love how bright and cheery this turned out...I think it will go to my daughter.

Image: FTHS "Spectacular Birdbrain" Digital Set (Fundraiser set, currently unavailable in store.)
Ink: Printer
Paper: G.P. 110, SU! Summer Sun, PTI Dark Chocolate, Doodlebug Patterned Paper
Embellies: Martha Stewart Glitter in "Cherry Popsicle" and "Sugar Cube", Swarovski Flatback Crystals in "Smokey Topaz", PTI Pure Poppy Button, DMC Floss, Brown Mesh
Extras: Prismas/Crayolas/Goo Gone, Scor-Pal, Foam Tape

Here are some fun questions for the "Meet the Design Team" portion of the hop!

What is something about you that none of the other team members know?
I have "twin toes", meaning my 2nd and 3rd toes are almost completely conjoined on both feet.  Strange, but true!

*"Webbed toes is the common name for syndactyly affecting the feet.  It is characterised by the fusion of two or more digits of the feet.  This is normal in many birds, such as ducks; amphibians, such as frogs; and mammals, such as kangaroos.

Who is the last person you sent a card to?
A member of the Secret Sister Swap I'm in.

Describe your crafting space.
Cluttered!  I have a beautiful studio with skylights, but I prefer to use the dining room table since I can still be close to my family.  From time to time (usually when there is zero table space left) I tidy up but as soon as I make a card it is a mess again!

Why do you like to make handmade cards?
I like the sense of accomplishment when I finish (that is, if it turns out!)...it's a mini piece of art.

What is your best coloring tip?
Plan your card before you start; choose your papers and embellishments and color the image to coordinate.  Also, if it isn't turning out it's okay to throw it away...it's only paper!

What is a good tip for printing digital images?
Resize!  That is what is so awesome about digis...you can tailor them to your project, whatever the size may be.  If in doubt about the size, print it on a used piece of copy paper so you don't waste cardstock.

Now head on over to Brenda's blog to check out her fabulous creation!

Thanks for hopping along with us today; the hop will end on Monday, October 5th at 6:00 a.m.  Winners will be posted on the From the Heart Stamps blog on Wednesday, October 7th.

Happy Haunting

Good morning!  It's Freebie Friday at Bugaboo...you can snag this spooky image from the store!  I love the silhouette images; they're fun to print on patterned paper and often times there is no coloring which makes for a quick and easy card.

When I saw the sketch from Sunday Stamps I knew it was perfect for this silhouette.  I pulled out a 6x6 paper pad, selected two patterns, and then printed the image on a third "plain" pattern.  I added a few colored pencil accents to the image.  A bit of texture was added by distressing the edges, and instead of a sentiment I added some Swarovski flatbacks for embellishing.  Voila!  A quick and easy card!

Good morning sketch fans!  It's Saturday so that means we have a great new sketch for you at Sketch Saturday...check it out:

I was a little bit stumped with the top panel, but then I thought of clouds!  I got out a Cat's Pajamas stamp set and some dies.  I had fun with this one; there's no coloring so it was a change of pace...a bit of paper piecing and die cutting.  I've embellished with Swarovski flatback crystals, buttons, and twine.  I love all the sparkle and texture!

At the Seaside

Good morning!  We have a new challenge for you from Ruby's Rainbow; for this fortnight Shaz has chosen our challenge and she would like to see "At the Seaside".  Great challenge!

I pulled out an adorable DeNami chick to use, along with a new 12x12 paper pack that included some stickers.  I don't really used stickers...I don't really know what to do with them....  I did decide to give them a try with this card though; the red rimmed circle and the stars worked rather well and I accented them with some Swarovski flatbacks.  Here's a close-up:

Go Lions!

Good morning!  It's time for a new challenge from the ladies at Ruby's Rainbow; for this fortnight Vickie has chosen our challenge and she would like to see your "Favorite Sport Theme".  Great challenge!

My favorite sport is cheer...yes, competition cheer is a sport!  My favorite kind of cheer, though, is wrestling; I never thought I would enjoy it but I truly do.  This will be my daughter's 3rd year on the wrestling squad; it's fun getting to know the wrestlers and cheering them on...these are the same boys I have known since they were in Kindergarten!

I have pulled a fun Changito stamp from my stash and turned her into "Changitette" by adding a bit of bling to her hair.  She is colored with pencils and accented with glitter.  I went with the "number" patterned paper because it is all about the numbers in wrestling!  I've done some simple layering and added Swarovski flatback crystals for embellishing.  I will save this one and give it to Ivy this fall when wrestling starts.

Hey Chickie

Good morning!  We have a new sketch for you at Catch the Bug...check it out:

Fun sketch, right?!  I have to admit the hexagons threw me off a bit, but that's why they call it a challenge!  The chicken is colored with pencils and of course I had to add some "glittery eye shadow"...I really couldn't resist.  I was able to work 4 patterned papers into the card...I love it when I can make that work!  I've embellished simply with some Swarovski flatback crystals.  I have a friend in mind for this one...she has chickens at her acreage and is kind enough to give us fresh eggs!
