TMS#133

Good Tuesday morning!  It's time for another fun challenge from Tuesday Morning Sketches; our sketch this week comes from Jessica and it's not only a sketch, but a card with a "scrapling".  I have always wanted to try this, so here was my chance!

First, you trim an A2 card down to a 4 1/4" square...the portion remaining is the "scrapling".  How fun is that?  You can use the scrap to make a tiny little card.  I added a charm that says "I Love You"...this might be a fun one to sneak into one of the kids' backpacks.  Or, as we say at our house "packpack"....  When my daughter was a pre-schooler, she used to call it this and it stuck!

Image: Stampendous
Paper: PTI Vintage Cream, SU! Poppy Parade, Pinecone Press DP
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Embellies: SU! Poppy Parade Ribbon, Barbara Trombley's Art Glitter in "Angel Dust", Watch Us Charm
Extras: Prismas/Crayolas/Goo Gone, Spellbinders Nestabilities, Dimensionals

I hope you will stop over at the Tuesday Morning Sketches blog to check out the rest of the DT's creations. I would love to see you give this fun technique a try too....  This week is a judged challenge and Marie has thrown in the extra challenge of 4-2-1...4 layers, 2 ribbons, and 1 embellishment.  Have fun!

Thanks for stopping by!

XOXO

Hello there!  As I was scanning the current challenges, I saw 3 that piqued my interest:

4 Crafty Chicks---Something New (image, twine)
Skipping Stones Design---Sketch 108
Whimsy Inspirations---Charms

So...with these challenges in mind, this is what I came up with!  I colored the little gal with pencils, paper pieced her dress, and added glitter to the heart.  I added a bit of twine and a charm for embellishing.  When I finished,  I wondered if maybe I should have used red for the card?  Since I'm fighting a miserable cold and didn't feel like getting out my scalpel to perform card surgery, I left it as is!  LOL

Image: Stampendous
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select, SU! Pretty in Pink and Basic Gray, Basic Grey DP
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Sakura Black Gel Pen
Embellies: The Cat's Pajama's "Peppermint Twist" Twine, Barbara Trombley's Art Glitter in "Pink Smoothie", Watch Us Charm
Extras: Prismas/Crayolas/Goo Gone, Spellbinder's Nestabilities, The Paper Studio Sticky Doos

So do you have any plans for New Year's Eve?  Whatever your plans my be, have fun and be safe!

SC358: Baked with (heart)!!

Good morning! Yesterday I was able to work the SCS sketch challenge into my day off. I generally try to keep the measurements of my card as close to the sketch as possible, so I go on the hunt for a stamp that will "fit". My Changitos and Calendar Chicks are my "go to" stamps, so I decided to use this fun image. Luckily, I found some fun DP in my stash too!

Changito is colored with pencils and his eyes are accented with a black gel pen. The heart in the sentiment is accented with a bit of glitter. I added some brads, seam binding and a charm to complete my card.

Image/Sentiment: Stampendous "Changito Baker" Clear Set
Paper: PTI Vintage Cream and Dark Chocolate, SU! Baja Breeze, Moxie DP
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Sakura Black Gel Pen
Embellies: Martha Stewart Crystal Fine Glitter, Spare Parts Brads, SU! Seam Binding, Karen Foster Charm

C.C. Designs Birgitta

Hello there! I have a fun spring card to share that works for 3 challenges:

1. Monthly image challenge on SCS
2. Jen del Muro's March SFYTT
3. The Corrosive Challenge Blog challenge (3 DP's, 2 ribbons, 1 image)

It's not often that I'm able to combine challenges, so I was pretty excited!

This month our image came from Imke and she included the cute, little sun charm. I decided to make Birgitta's sunflower pink...just for fun! The image is colored with pencils and accented with glitter. I added some felt grass and finished it off with a bit of ribbon, cord, and the charm.

Image: C.C. Designs Swiss Pixie Birgitta
Paper: PTI Dark Chocolate, Pebbles DP
Embellies: SU! Chocolate Chip Grosgrain Ribbon, SU! Silver Cord, Doodlebug Glitter, Sun Charm
Extras: Prismas/Crayolas/Goo Gone, MFT Die-namics Grass Die, EK Success 3D Dots

I can't wait to see what image we will be working with next month!

That's all for today; thanks for stopping by!

MOJO163: Let's mix it up!

Hello! How has your weekend been? It seems they fly by way too fast.... I just finished the Mojo Monday sketch. It was a pretty simple one this week; I like that you can really showcase your DP.
I used one of the MFT a'la modes; I think she's really cute and the image went so well with the baking themed paper that I found on my last excursion into a scrapbooking store. The image is colored with pencils and cut with Spellbinder's dies. I used some grosgrain ribbon and a charm from my stash to finish the card.
Image/Sentiment: MFT "What's Cooking?"
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select, Fine Linen, and Pure Poppy, Little Yellow Bicycle DP
Embellies: PTI Fine Linen Grosgrain Ribbon, SU! Red Grosgrain Ribbon, Karen Foster Charm
Extras: Prismas/Crayolas/Goo Gone, Spellbinder's Nestabilities, EK Success 3D Dots
I had a question regarding how I cut my 1/8" layers. I just use my Cutterpede cutter by EK Success; I have both the large and the small. I like them the best of the cutters I have tried. While on the topic of layers, I did notice that according to the angle in which you shoot your picture, the layers can look distorted. Has anyone else noticed this? If so, do you do anything to remedy it?
Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy the rest of your evening....

SC305: Changito Baker

Good morning! I always look forward to the SCS Wednesday sketch challenge, so I was eager to play this morning. I decided to go with an old favorite...Changito! The little guy just makes me happy!
The image is colored with pencils. I usually use a different color of brown for Changito, but matched him up with the Soft Suede cardstock today. I embellished the card simply with a charm and a bit of ribbon. Usually the inside of my cards are left blank, but I finished it off with a sentiment and a strip of DP. This one will be perfect for the stash, since I have a tween girl. I think she will like it.
Image/Sentiment: Stampendous "Changito Baker" Clear Set
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select, SU! Soft Suede and Pink Pirouette, Doodlebug DP
Embellies: SU! Pink Grosgrain Ribbon, Sulyn Industries Charm
Extras: Prismas/Crayolas/Goo Gone, Spellbinder's Nestabilities, EK Success 3D Dots
Thanks for stopping by today; I hope your day is a good one!

SC291: You drive me bananas!

Hello! I have a fun little card to share with you using today's SCS sketch. There was another small rectangle on the bottom right side, but I opted to leave it off and go with a charm instead. Changito is colored with pencils and I paper pieced the bananas using the flip side of the DP. (I have had this DP for quite some time and have been wanting to use it...I think it's perfect for my little buddy Changito!).

Image: Stampendous
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, SU! Black Marker
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select and Dark Chocolate, SU! So Saffron, Reminisce DP
Embellies: PTI Dark Chocolate Ribbon, Pewter Banana Charm (my stash)
Extras: Crayola Colored Pencils/Goo Gone, DMC Floss, EK Success 3D Dots

Well, that's all I have for now. I need to go fill out paperwork for the kids' Dr. appointment; they are both getting their physicals today. They are worried that they will have to get shots, especially DD. She already had 1 shot at the Dr.s on Monday and 7 at the dentist yesterday getting orthodontic work done. Today may call for a trip to the ice cream shop.... Or maybe a frappe or smoothie from McDonalds....

Thanks for stopping by; have a good one!

Bella Graduation Card/Gift Box

Happy Wednesday! It is another cold, rainy day here in Iowa. I don't think I have ever had the furnace running in May before....
Today I have a non-traditional graduation card to show you. My former boss asked me to make a card for her daughter's graduation from medical school. I made 3 cards so she would have a choice. (DH just called to tell me to put my car in the garage becaue golf ball sized hail is coming our way. Ack!) Anyway, this is the first. I wanted to make something special for this young lady. She has done some remarkable things in her life; like traveling to third world countries to help those less fortunate. She has set high goals and wants to make a difference in the world.
I did just a bit of coloring, as I paper pieced Bella's outfit. I added a couple of black lines on her feet so I could "make" shoes. For embellishments, I made a tag, tied it and the "2010" charm together, and attached it under the knotted ribbon. I also made a simple box to present the card in. I used PTI Stamper's Select, so it's light but sturdy, and my Scor-Pal. I coordinated it with the DP and added her monogram. Inside, the bottom of the box is lined with white felt.
Image/Sentiment: Stamping Bella
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select, SU! Melon Mambo, g.c.d studios DP
Embellies: Watch Us Pewter Charm, White Grosgrain Ribbon (my stash)
Extras: Prismas/Goo Gone, Scor-Pal, Spellbinders Nestabilities, QuicKutz Blossom Alphabet, DMC White Floss, Foam Tape
Thanks for stopping by today!

The Corrosive Challenge: Charms!

Hello! Good (early) Sunday morning! I fell asleep in the chair tonight and it's really close to Sunday, so I thought I would post this now. I may sleep in; I have developed a really sore throat. Ack! DD had one; then came an ear infection, then a bad cough. Maybe I just need a little R & R....

Anyway.... Let's talk about this week's challenge on The Corrosive Challenge Blog! It's charms! I love charms! I knew right away what I wanted to make. I have had this Bella image and sentiment, along with the peapod charm. I was lucky enough to find this vegetable paper on my last shopping trip. It's by Cosmo Cricket and is double-sided; I love the cute little faces on the vegies!

Bella is colored with pencils. I didn't know if I wanted to work some blue into the card, since there was none in the DP. I was sorry right away, when I started coloring, because it was really hard to blend! Ack! If anybody has any tips for coloring with dark blue, please share them with me....

I made a little tag out of the Kraft, added the peapod, and tied it with some jute. I tied my knot with the ribbon and added a bit of a glue underneath the knot to hold the tag in place. I really love the ribbon on this card. It came from my friend Chrissy; I just hosted a PTI swap and she tucked some goodies into the package for me. I love how it's crinkly and just a bit shabby! It really drapes nicely too!

Image/Sentiment: Stamping Bella
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: PTI Vintage Cream and Kraft, SU! Ruby Red, Cosmo Cricket DP
Embellies: Cream Ribbon(from Chrissy), Peapod Charm (my stash), and PTI Rustic Jute Button Twine
Extras: Prismas/Crayolas/Goo Gone, Foam Tape

I hope you will head over to The Corrosive Challenge Blog to check out the DT's goodies. There are links in my sidebar to their blogs as well. I hope you can play along this week!

Thanks for stopping by; enjoy your Sunday!

TCP Color Challenge

To celebrate The Cat's Pajamas 100th week of challenges, there were 4 special challenges this week. This card works for Joanne's color challenge which was to use Kraft, Celery, Saffron, and Pumpkin. See Joanne's blog post here.

My DP has a few extra colors in it, but I thought it worked well anyway. I colored my image using the challenge colors. The stamp set "Spring Fling" has the cutest little carrot stamp; I used it to make the carrot DP, by stamping on Kraft and coloring the images in. I like how it turned out!

Image: The Cat's Pajamas "Spring Fling"
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select and Kraft, SU! Pumpkin Pie, KI Memories DP
Embellies: PTI Orange Zest GrosgrainRibbon, Pewter Carrot Charm (my stash)
Extras: Prismas/Goo Gone, Spellbinders Nestabilities, DMC Floss, Foam Tape

I learned something while making this card: Don't be too stingy! I try to avoid waste whenever I can, so often times I have a heck of a time when I tie my ribbon. Today I didn't cut enough to knot the ribbon; the wider it is, the more you need to tie the knot. Well, I was unhappy with the knot...so I untied it. It was wrinkled...I attempted to iron it (keep in mind it was attached to the card at this point). The iron was too hot...the ribbon melted. I cut off the melted part...what now? LOL (I wasn't laughing at the time!) I ended up gathering the ribbon with a needle and floss, and then added the charm. I do like how it turned out, even if I took a roundabout way to get it done....

Thanks for stopping by!
