Summer Fun + A Recipe

Good morning!  We have a new challenge for you at Ruby's Rainbow; for this fortnight I chose the challenge and it is...Summer Fun + A Recipe...1 Image, 2 Patterned Papers, 3 Embellishments.  Sound Fun?  Good, I hope you will play along!

I combined this challenge with some others at Paper Playful...sometimes it's fun to see how many challenges you can incorporate!  I used one of Faith's adorable Birdbrains and colored her up in a bright, cheery summer palette.  Of course, I've used some glitter to enhance the image!  I've embellished with a sparkly sun and some clouds, plus the 3 buttons.  Here's a close-up:

ABC Monday

Good morning!  It's "Anything But a Card" day at Catch the Bug!  Today I have made a bookmark, and a simple card to present it in.  I've been playing along with the Splitcoaststampers Hope You Can Cling To challenges; this one is for the "Tag, You're It!" challenge.  I thought it would be fun to turn the tag into a bookmark!

The image is colored with pencils and the halo and wings are accented with glitter.  I've used a PTI die to cut the bookmark and have added some fibers to the top.  For the card, I've added a pocket decorated simply with brads.  This is how the card and bookmark look together:

For The Mom-To-Be....

Good Friday morning! I was asked to make a card for a baby shower...the mom-to-be is expecting twins! I made 3 cards total; will share the others later. With my first card, I wanted to focus on the mom-to-be. I thought of this cute A Muse stamp that is perfect for paper piecing. I paired it with some DP I've had in my stash for a long time (love the pretty paisley!), added some punched flowers and Swarovski crystals to give it a bit of extra sparkle. Inside the card is a white panel that reads:

Expecting JOY...
...TWIN boys!

Image: A Muse
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select and Dark Chocolate, The Paper Studio DP
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, SU! Black Marker
Embellies: Swarovski Flatback Crystals
Extras: EK Success Flower Punches

I'm entering my card in this challenge: Ruby's Rainbow: Cute and Cuddly

TMS #101

Good Tuesday morning! I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July yesterday! I was lucky enough to be off work since there was a lot to do in my town...bands, carnival, parade, fireworks, etc. The weather was cooperative...hot, no rain. What could be better?!

Melissa has a new sketch for us over at the Tuesday Morning Sketches blog. I had about 3 different plans and then couldn't find the supplies I had in mind.... Then I thought of cute little Mavis and decided to go with her; I love her paper pieced romper!

SCS SC337: I Think I'll Hang On To You!

Good morning! I played along with the SCS sketch challenge yesterday and was able to use a few goodies from some "happy mail" that my Secret Sister sent me. How fun to get "happy mail"!

Changito is colored with pencils; he turned out a bit lighter than I usually color him. I ran out of the PTI Stamper's Select and was using white paper from another source. While the paper is really nice, it is super smooth whereas the PTI has more "tooth" to "grab" the color. I tried to shade and blend, but didn't have much luck. After I started coloring the image, I remembered I had some Copic markers in "Changito Colors" sent to me by a stamping/blogging friend. Ack! I think I really messed up here, because the paper probably would have been perfect for the markers.... I will have to try them next time...I confess I am a bit nervous since I see so many who color beautifully with them.

I tried to make a little scene and added some felt grass and clouds, along with a punched sun. I finished it off with a button and Baker's Twine, and some brads. The sentiment for the inside reads: I think I'll hang on to you! I thought the card would be perfect for one of the kids to give to my hubby for Father's Day.

Image: Stampendous "Changito Piggyback"
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Sakura Black Gel Pen
Paper: SU! Baja Breeze and Pumpkin Pie, SU! DP
Embellies: Spare Parts Brads, PTI Button, Divine Twine Baker's Twine,
Extras: Crayolas/Goo Gone, MFT Die-namics Grass and Cloud Dies, EK Success Sun Punch, The Paper Studio Sticky Doos

Thanks for stopping by; enjoy your day!

TMS#98: Inspiration Challenge

Good morning! Today we have a bit of a different challenge for Tuesday Morning Sketches...it's an inspiration challenge! Our inspiration is a photograph of a scent I recently bought; not only does it smell wonderful, it's packaged beautifully!

I will have to admit, I am not one who usually likes this type of challenge...I have a hard time thinking out of the box. One look at those beautiful flowers though, and I was hooked! It was fun to make something totally different; for instance, I would have never came up with the unusual color scheme on my own and I rarely use gold brads.

I colored my image with pencils, added a bit of texture with an embossing folder and kept the layout simple to keep the focus on the flowers. I used the EK Success "retro flower" punch and rolled the petals of the larger flowers under, and added gold brads to the centers. I popped them up for added dimension.

Image: Stamping Bella "Daisybella"
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select, SU! Blushing Bride and Summer Sun
Embellies: Spare Parts Gold Brads
Extras: Prismas/Crayolas/Goo Gone, Sissix Embossing Folder, The Paper Studio Sticky Doos

Now it's your turn; I would love to see what you come up with using the inspiration photo! Be sure to stop by the Tuesday Morning Sketches blog to see what the rest of the DT has created too.

Thanks for stopping by!

The Cat's Pajamas Tuesday #160

Good morning! I decided to play along with The Cat's Pajamas challenge this week; once I saw the sketch, I knew I had to make time! I used to play a lot, but just got out of the habit.... So many challenges...so little time! Leigh was the hostess this week and she designs fabulous sketches; you can check out her post here.

I make very few "man cards" so this was a challenge for me. I was about ready to throw in the towel and told myself to "just finish it already"! LOL I think the problem is, I don't really work with these colors a lot, so they were a bit out of my comfort zone. As you see...no pink!

The DP is from Bella BLVD and I bought it because the back of one of the sheets has the coolest crossword puzzle. I can't wait to use that for something! Meanwhile, I went for the colors.... The whale is paper pieced and I used a die for the waves. It's finished off with some Baker's Twine, a button, and a glittery star (more about that later).

Image: The Cat's Pajamas
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, SU! Black Marker, Sakura Black Gel Pen
Paper: SU! Basic Gray and Cherry Cobbler, PTI Enchanted Evening, G.P. 110, Bella BLVD DP
Embellies: PTI Pure Poppy Baker's Twine, PTI Hawaiian Shores Button, Distress Stickles in Brushed Pewter
Extras: Prisma/Goo Gone, Spellbinder's Nestabilitie Die, The Cat's Pajamas CutUp Wave Die, EK Success Star Punch

Here's a close-up of the star. I applied a thick coating of Stickles, let it dry, then added more where it seemed sparse (the glitter glue "shrinks down" a bit when it's dry), then let it dry again. Let me tell you...it took forever to dry! I about cried when the kitty jumped up on my work space to look out the window; I ran over to the table and breathed a sigh of relief when I saw it sitting there unharmed. I could just see it sticking to her long white fur and me chasing her through the house to retrieve it! Not fun! LOL

All right, that's it for me today! I hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend...enjoy and be safe!

SC326: Changito in Space

Hello there! I was finally able to get to this week's sketch challenge on SCS and I combined it with The Corrosive Challenge Blog's challenge which was to use stars. Woo hoo! 1 card, 2 challenges...I like that! Have you ever had a vision and your finished card just didn't really measure up? Well, that's what happened here.... LOL I'm thinking this will be a good one for a "little man"; not too little though, or I will have to find something to cover the end of the pin. The space ship is stamped on metallic silver paper; I added a bit of color with pencils and then some glitter. Changito is stamped again on CS, colored, cut out and adhered. The stars are punched out of Doodlebug Sugar Coated CS. Image: Stampendous Clear Set "Changito in Space" Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, SU! Black Marker Paper: PTI Stamper's Select and Dark Chocolate, SU! Brushed Silver, Daisy Bucket Designs DP, Doodlebug Sugar Coated CS Embellies: SU! Chocolate Chip Grosgrain Ribbon, Doodlebug Glitter Extras: Prismas/Crayolas/Goo Gone, Quilting Pin, EK Success Star Punches, EK Success 3D Dots That's it for tonight; thanks for stopping by and enjoy your weekend! CAS Lucky Star

Hello! I'm back with a clean and simple card today. This is a variation of one I saw on SCS some time ago. I have made some with a different sentiment and a heart, but thought I would try something else just for fun.
The sentiment is stamped on vellum, the vellum is mounted on white CS and then the star is slipped between the layers and held in place with a touch of glue. If you cut the vellum just a bit wider on the sides, you can turn the ends under and hold the panel in place with a touch of glue on the back; this way the front is free of glue. I used 3 self-adhesive rhinestones for embellishing.
Sentiment: SU! Define Your Life
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: PTI Stamper's Select and True Black, The Paper Studio Vellum
Embellie: Me And My Big Ideas Rhinestones
Extra: EK Success Star Punch
Tips and Tricks:
I you are impatient (like me!), use your heat gun to "set" the ink on the vellum. I stamped a bunch of sentiments and as I was putting the card together, realized I had smudged the ink (my messy fingers should have been my first clue!)
Thanks for stopping by today!

Bellarific Friday: Your Best Work!!!

Good morning! This week our challenge at Blogabella was "your best work", so I decided to go with one of the new stamps I received last week "Ilovetoshopabella". At first I was going to go with a Christmas theme, but opted for autumn when I found these pretty papers in my stash.

Bella is colored with Prismas; I did go out of my comfort zone here and shaded around her with a fuschia color. As I was coloring, it looked really dark, but you can barely see it in the photo. I guess I will have to apply a bit more color next time.... The flower is 4 punched flowers combined. I crumpled and sprayed the plaid layers and then rolled them around a pencil to give the petals some lift and dimension. The center is a Bella Dot and the leaf is a scrap of ribbon.

I used Jen del Muro's SFYTT, but I flipped it and switched sides for the embellies.

Image: Stamping Bella
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: PTI Stamper's Selcet and Dark Chocolate, SU! River Rock, All My Memories DP
Embellies: Ribbon (my stash), Bella Dots in "Chocolate", Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in "Vanilla Breeze"
Extras: Prismas/Crayolas/Goo Gone, EK Success Retro Flower Punches, Spellbinder's Nestabilities

Today is the last day for submitting a card for the chance to be the next Bella Babe. You had to submit a card to Blogabella all 4 Fridays of this month; the winner will be picked in September. There were a LOT of participants!

Thanks for stopping by today; enjoy your day!

Changito: have a blast!!

Happy Sunday! I hope you are enjoying your day. We planted a garden this morning; actually, I shouldn't say "we" because DH and the kids did it! We have grown tomatoes and peppers in the past, sometimes in pots on the deck, but have never had a "real" garden. So this is really fun for us! We'll see how it goes....

The last few days I have been coloring some of these cute Changito images. I realized the 4th of July is right around the corner, so I had better get busy! I used plain Crayola pencils and was amazed at how good the coverage was on the Kraft CS.

Paper: PTI Kraft, SU! Real Red and Brilliant Blue, G.P. 110
Embellies: Spare Parts Brads, Glitter
